Geometric representation of the continued fraction of \sqrt{2}

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Continued fractions are considered an arithmetic object of mathematics. However, it is relatively easy to make a simple geometric expression of it if we represent a fraction y/x by a rectangle of height y and width x. Then the slope of its diagonal is y/x. Thus, a continued fraction can be expressed geometrically as an assembly of rectangles. For the continued fraction of \sqrt{2} we start with a horizontal "long square" (rectangle in 1:2 proportion), then we add a vertical long square (2:1) above with the same width, then a long horizontal square on the right, then again a long vertical square above and so on.
