September music

story · music · places

What do you think of my short version of the life of Alexander Goehr? Our DYK team would probably want to mention that he worked in a training kibbutz, while I was happy to include a link to an article by Brian Boulton, - we sang the Monteverdi Vespers on 1 September 2019. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:30, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Today's story has 3 composers, I couldn't decide for the one on the Main page or the one who didn't make it on his bicentenary, so took both, and the pic has a third. Listen if you have a bit of time. The music, played by the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra in Germany in April 2022, impressed me. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:00, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Recommended reading today: Frye Fire, by sadly missed Vami_IV. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:36, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Happy because my story today is about a Czech mezzo soprano who is mentioned on the Main page on her birthday. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:48, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Three stories related to today in memory, 11 September, 20 July and 20 June, the latter piece of art also pictured on the Main page. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:33, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Today is Schoenberg's 150th birthday! On display, portrayed by Egon Schiele, with music from Moses und Aron, and with two DYK hooks, one from 2010 and another from 2014; the latter, about his 40th birthday, appeared on his 140th birthday, which made me happy then and now again. - See places for a stunning sunrise, on the day Bruckner's 200th birthday was celebrated (just a few days late). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:35, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Gerda Arendt, sorry that I have been incommunicado for a couple of weeks. Real life stuff had to be sorted and I wasn't able to be on line. Lots of catching up to do. The photos of Schloss Weilburg are gorgeous. Pears, artichokes, that reflection in a puddle, lovely! The sunrise is wonderful too. SusunW (talk) 14:03, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry ;) - My story today is about a man who played jazz when it was banned by the Nazis, - you can listen to how they played it later. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:27, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My story today features a pic I took from my position in the choir, I can also offer varied delightful music, some from Venice, also with pics I took, - note the rose in the clarinet ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:50, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Lovely, lovely. The color is one I have rarely seen in a rose. And what pray tell does rotting fruit sound like? SusunW (talk) 16:13, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
They somehow took signals from the processes in the fruit and made them music and it sounded lovely. Explanations were in Italian so of little use to me. Like the subtitles in the opera - couldn't understand her German ;) - Just returned from an amazing combination of music (Hildegard of Bingen and improvisation on it) and abstract light images, will upload an image shortly. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:43, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fascinating! SusunW (talk) 14:20, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Help with a proposal for GA reassessment

I realize architecture is not one of your main interests, Susun, but over the past few days, together with Ramblersen2, I have spent quite a bit of my editing time making improvements to Architecture of Denmark in line with the shortcomings identified. Given your expertise in GA assessment, you might like to participate in the discussion on the article's talk page.--Ipigott (talk) 11:21, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry Ipigott I have been offline for about 2 weeks. I threw my back out (doing absolutely nothing exciting or out of the ordinary) and it completely limited my ability to sit or lie down. 2 weeks of physical therapy later, I am finally functional again. Do you still need help with this? SusunW (talk) 14:07, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good to see you're back to normal, Susun. I was becoming a little worried. Yes, I think it would still be useful if you could look at this as the result is still pending, possible because of lack of interest from other contributors.--Ipigott (talk) 14:17, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ipigott I don't really have a clue about how a reassessment is done, but it seems very odd to me that a "reviewer" can edit an article that they are reviewing. The review seems a bit contentious, but his main point seems to be that things like "outstanding", "masterpiece", "impressive", etc. should be attributed to whoever made the assessment, instead of in wikivoice. I don't really get why its relevant that updates from 2012 be included, unless there has been some significant development in Danish style since that time. As a traveler, it seems to me that most modern architecture has lost its unique regionalism, but perhaps my observations are biased. I know I am probably not being very helpful, but every source I have tried to access, I cannot access. SusunW (talk) 16:49, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking a look. This is the first time I've been targeted for a GA re-assessment and I seem to be learning as the process continues. It looks as if new problems can be listed whenever the previous set of issues has been resolved. I'm sorry you had difficulty in accessing the sources. I'll check them all out and try to find more recent equivalents if difficulties persist. At the moment, it looks as if we are faced with a full new review, even if the article has not officially been demoted.--Ipigott (talk) 09:52, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Women in Green's "Around the World in 31 Days" GA Editathon – October 2024

Hello SusunW:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2024!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!
