BoJack Horseman creator and showrunner Raphael Bob-Waksberg tried to call out Bill Cosby’s behind-the-scenes sexual misconduct before Hannibal Buress brought national attention to the open secret, but Netflix wouldn’t let him target one of the biggest monsters in Hollywood.
Considering the subject matter of BoJack Horseman, it’s no surprise that, early in the show’s run, Bob-Waksberg wanted to address the dark, complicated legacy of Cosby despite the general public’s hesitance to do the same. After all, BoJack Horseman told the story of a 1990s sitcom star whose private life and late-career reputation didn’t match his onscreen personality, and it’s hard to think of a single TV star who better exemplifies that juxtaposition than Dr. Cliff Huxtable. So, when Bob-Waksberg and his writers were planning the show’s second season in late 2014, it only made sense for them to use their satirical dramedy about...

The first full trailer for Paramount+'s 2D animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem spin-off series, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, is now online, and it brings us up to speed with the fun-loving Heroes in a Half-Shell following the events of the critically-acclaimed movie.
The teaser reveals that Leo, Mikey, Raph and Donnie will actually be flying solo at the start of the series, and we will likely follow them on individual adventures before they regroup to face off against a new villain who goes by the name of Bishop.
Based on the moniker, there's a good chance this is a new take on Earth Protection Force Agent John Bishop, who debuted in the 2003 animated series.
We still know very little about this show, but it is expected to be set between the events of Mutant Mayhem and the planned sequel, which means there's a decent...

Chicago – Chicago is acknowledged as one of the great comedy cities in the world mostly for The Second City influence. However like other cities, there is an ebb and flow regarding stand-up comedy, and during the late 1980s/early 1990s there was a stand-up boom in the Windy City, chronicled in the film “Out of the Loop.” Producer Scott Perlman provides the context behind the documentary, now available for free on Plex and Tubi, and for download on various platforms.
“Out of the Loop” is familiar documentary form, but there are several twists in the story that occur, exposing the uniqueness of Chicago … one of the main ones being the great divide between Black and White comics, also divided geographically between South and North sides. The truth, in this case, set several comics free and emphasized the lost legend of the late Bernie Mac. Featuring well know and lesser known...

The DC Extended Universe is dead.
Starting in 2008, several feature films based on Marvel Comics proved to be big hits, and Marvel Studios (in conjunction with Disney) would go on to rewrite the blockbuster landscape. For 15 straight years, Marvel dominated the box office by taking a serialized TV structure and applying it to movies, hence birthing the "Cinematic Universe." Each film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was directly connected to all the others. In the "season finale episodes," characters would team up. The MCU never told very sophisticated stories — they all boiled down to "good guys" and "bad guys" engaging in pugilism — but they captured the public's attention like no film series had before.
Naturally, Warner Bros. tried to imitate the McU's success by launching the Dceu in 2013. After all, Warner Bros. still owned the film rights to an enormous back catalogue of superhero characters, including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman,...

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been around since the ‘80s. They’ve starred in several animated TV series, live-action movies from Jim Henson costumes to CGI turtles, and two animated films. The latest, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, reinvents the comic book heroes in several ways.
Perhaps taking a cue from the Spider-Verse movies, Mutant Mayhem uses an animation style that is not a straightforward depiction of its world. You can tell it’s New York and there are turtles and other mutants, but the animation combines styles like teenage sketchbooks to create a livelier viewing experience.
The film sticks to the turtles’ origins, mutated by green ooze along with their father figure, the rat named Splinter. The experiments by scientist Baxter Stockman (voice of Giancarlo Esposito) led to the creation of some familiar mutants like Bebop (Seth Rogen) and Rocksteady (John Cena), along with some new...

The world of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Tmnt) is set to undergo an exciting change. Jeff Rowe, the talented mind behind The Mitchells vs. the Machines, directed Tmnt: Mutant Mayhem. Now, he’s gearing up for its sequel, and fans can expect a few surprises, especially concerning the notorious villain, The Shredder.
Previously, in Mutant Mayhem, the storyline swerved away from The Shredder as the central antagonist. Instead, the limelight was on a new character named Superfly. But, for those who stayed for the post-credits, they caught a hint of what’s next. The scene showcased Cynthia Utrom, gearing up to recruit Shredder to challenge the Turtles, complete with his recognizable purple cape against the backdrop of the New York skyline.
If you’re curious about the direction Rowe plans to take with Shredder, you’re not alone. While chatting to Collider, the director expressed his thoughts on reimagining the character.

As recounted in this week's Tales from the Box Office column, "Blade" screenwriter David S. Goyer was told by New Line studio head Mike Luca that the budget he got for the movie would depend on which lead actor he could attach to it: "I'll make it for $40 million if you can get Denzel Washington, 35 if you can get Wesley Snipes, and 20 if you can get Laurence Fishburne."
25 years after "Blade" hit theaters, star power is still a major factor in studio calculations, which is why movies like "Strays" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" tend to recruit celebrity "face actors" for their voice roles, rather than less famous but more experienced voice actors. The value of celebrity stars comes not only from putting their names in the trailer and on posters, but also from the actors themselves promoting movies on the talk show circuit, on press tours, and finally on the red carpet.

The animators of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem were taken care of by not being overworked. Director Jeff Rowe and producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg made sure the staff could work on the animated movie while continuing to maintain a good work-life balance.
“That was the thing that was really important to us on this film, and I learned it from Seth and Evan because in getting to know Seth, I’m like, ‘He has a really good work-life balance and everyone at Point Gray does,'” Rowe said in an interview with Insider. “And I asked him about that and he is like, ‘Well, we’re like when you’re doing live-action, sometimes you’re on a set for 40 days in a row and it is exhausting and tiring. And we want to make sure that our people have time away from that and that it doesn’t become their entire lives.

When CG animation began to take hold following the release of Toy Story, there was a period where a lot of the movies looked quite similar. Little by little, the various animation studios added their own stylistic flourishes, but it wasn’t until the release of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse were it felt like there was a real mainstream departure from the previous style. Since the success of Spider-Verse, we’ve seen more animated movies embrace a unique style, including the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.
While speaking with THR, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem director Jeff Rowe credited Spider-Verse with giving them more confidence in their style. “The first Spider-Verse really opened a lot of doors,” Rowe said. “It really made it okay for studios to take chances on a film looking unique and maybe having a little bit more sophistication and emotional maturity in its storytelling.

Paramount and Nickelodeon’s animated adventure is getting a jump on the weekend by debuting on Wednesday. This weekend’s other new release, the Warner Bros. shark sequel “Meg 2: The Trench,” lands in theaters on Friday.
“Mutant Mayhem” is projected to pick up $35 million to $45 million over its first five days of release. Meanwhile, “Meg 2” is targeting a three-day start of $25 million to $30 million. Those films will vie for second place on box office charts alongside Christopher Nolan’s historical drama “Oppenheimer,” now in its third weekend of release.

Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo are facing off against Barbie and Ken at the box office.
Paramount’s animated adventure “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” is projected to pick up $35 million to $45 million in its first five days of release. But those ticket sales won’t be enough to dethrone “Barbie,” which is expected to top the box office for a third weekend in a row.
Greta Gerwig’s colorful fantasy comedy is eyeing $45 million to $50 million between Friday and Sunday, another huge result for the plastic fantastic blockbuster. It’s already the second-highest grossing movie of the year with $381.6 million in North America.
“Tmnt” opens nationwide on Wednesday, two days ahead of another newcomer, the Warner Bros. shark sequel “Meg 2: The Trench.” Those films will vie for second place alongside Christopher Nolan’s historical drama “Oppenheimer,” now in its third weekend of release.

Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com audio film review for “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” the latest reboot of the popular Gen X cartoon heroes, produced and co-written by Seth Rogen and featuring the voice of Jackie Chan. In theaters on August 2nd.
Rating: 4.5/5.0
The film begins with a rogue scientist named Baxter (voice by Giancarlo Esposito) who develops a “mutagen” so he can create a family from common animals … like a housefly. When a rival scientist named Cynthia Ultron (Maya Rudolph) raids the lab, some of the mutagen ends up in the sewers of New York City, affecting a rat named Splinter (Jackie Chan) and four tiny turtles, who Splinter adopts to live apart from humans in the sewers. He names them Michelangelo (Shamon Brown Jr.),, Donatello (Micah Abbey), Raphael (Brady Noon) and Leonardo (Nicolas Cantu). They grow up to be the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and for...

All right, perhaps this unifying theme for the 2023 Summer movie season is nostalgia. Sure, the multiplex is usually filled with sequels and reboots this time of year, but at this moment the studios appear to be trying to exploit the treasured properties of our youth, over several different generations. Last weekend it was a beloved ride/attraction which has been a staple at the happiest place(s) on Earth for over fifty years. However the box office (and WB record-breaker) for the last couple of weeks stretches back another ten years to engulf theatre lobbies in a title wave of pink (“This Barbie’s gonna’ bust a billion bucks at the box office”). Now, this Wednesday’s (gettin’ a jump on the weekend) new release also has a toy connection, but that merch arrived well after the characters’ comic book debut in 1984 (which spawned a TV cartoon a couple of years later). Oh,...

While scores of Tmnt fans have already seen Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, thanks to the magic of preview screenings, others have reserved a table at their favorite pizza joint in anticipation of the film’s release on Wednesday, August 2! Still, a pie decorated with pepperoni, anchovies, and banana peppers isn’t the only way to celebrate the Fab Four’s return. Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies are proud to present a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem featurette exploring the evolution of the Turtles franchise!
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem featurette begins with Tmnt co-creator Kevin Eastman recalling the night the characters were conceived. After drawing a rudimentary version of a Ninja Turtle, Eastman slapped the image on Peter Laird’s desk and said, “This is going to be the next big thing!” More valid words have never been spoken as Tmnt’s popularity skyrocketed through the 1990s,...

Ahead of the film’s August 2nd theatrical release, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have unveiled the companion soundtrack to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. Listen to the album below via Apple Music or Spotify.
All of the films and television shows about our favorite reptilian crime fighters have a certain childlike quality, but with a team including Jeff Rowe (Gravity Falls), Seth Rogen, and Evan Goldberg, Mutant Mayhem breathes new comic life into the Ninja Turtles franchise. Reznor and Ross’ score follows suit, giving up their refined reputation for song titles like “Dipshits on a Roof,” “Murder the Shreks!,” “Puke Girl,” “Megamind, Gru-Type Sh*T,” and “Better Than Mark Ruffalo.”
In addition to Rogen as Bebop, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem features a voice cast of Micah Abbey (Donatello), Shamon Brown Jr. (Michelangelo), Nicolas Cantu (Leonardo), and Brady Noon (Raphael), Ayo Edebiri (April O’Neil), Giancarlo Esposito...

The summer movie season isn't over yet, and we've got some heroes in a half-shell coming our way to try and make a splash late in the game. Paramount Pictures is gearing up to release "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" next week, giving the animated take on Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird's beloved comic book creations a mid-week release to get a jump on the competition. That competition, in this case, is "Meg 2: The Trench," an R-rated shark flick seemingly going for a very different crowd. The question is, can this "Tmnt" reboot do for the turtles what "Into the Spider-Verse" did for Spider-Man?
Box Office Pro currently has director Jeff Rowe's "Mutant Mayhem" taking in anywhere between $27 and $36 million over the weekend, with a take of $37 to $49 million in the cards for the five-day, Wednesday to Sunday stretch. Meanwhile, "Meg 2" is eyeing a similar $26 to $35 million take.

This article contains spoilers for What We Do In The Shadows season 5 episode 4.
Politics are a draining business, as local community jurisdictions are filled with meaningless edicts requiring endless paperwork. This is the clot to the workings of American society, but lifeblood to those who thrive on the mind-numbing boredom of legislative agendas, especially those filed in triplicate. What We Do in the Shadows season 5 episode 4 “The Campaign” takes on the establishment, speaking hard truths to power in order to drain it.
“The Campaign” is filled with surprises. One is there is a cap on how many DUIs can be on someone’s record before being given the okay to run for office on Staten Island. This is ultimately the reason Sean Rinaldi (Anthony Atamanuik) is dropping out of the race for Staten Island Comptroller, in spite of all the hard work he put in to make his platform inclusive in “Pride Parade.

When you think of the various villains of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, you likely think of Shredder. Although the leader of the Foot Clan has been the arch-enemy of the Turtles for decades, Shredder won’t be featured in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, but that wasn’t always the case.
While speaking with io9, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem director Jeff Rowe revealed that early versions of the movie included Shredder as the main villain.
“The early version of the film [was] very different from what you’re seeing on screen,” Rowe said. “They were just in high school the entire movie. Shredder was the villain. And then part of the process of making this—and that’s one of the amazing things about animation—is because you don’t have to do a live-action shoot on a compressed schedule, you have a lot of time to...

“I like turtles.” Perhaps the most iconic phrase in modern history was uttered by ten-year-old Jonathan Ware at the 2007 Rose Festival in Portland, Oregon. With his zombie face paint freshly applied, Jonathan aka Zombie Kid was approached by Kgw local news correspondent Nancy Francis. After being asked to comment on his face paint, Jonathan’s response gave birth to one of the biggest viral videos. Sixteen years later, Paramount Pictures tracked Zombie Kid down to ask him his opinion on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. I think you already know what he’ll say.
When asked if this is the actual Zombie Kid, the official Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Instagram account responded, “Oh yeah, he’s back.” The early reactions to the film have been fairly positive and I’m digging the stylized animation. The studios seem pumped about the project as well as they have already...

In a summer where the off-the-boards success of original movies including Barbie and Oppenheimer is all the rage, the seventh-or so feature film iteration of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise wasn’t one with great expectations. Except when you read the credit block and discover the co-writers and producers are none other than Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and the director is Jeff Rowe, who most recently was an Oscar nominee for the wildly inventive animated hit The Mitchells vs The Machines.

Next week, the heroes in a half-shell return to the big screen, and they've never looked cooler. With the upcoming "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem," director Jeff Rowe and producers Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg have opted for an animation style that combines the classic sketch style of the original comic books with modern visual sensibilities that feel like a teenager's high school drawings brought to life. A new trailer leans into what critics are calling a "visually stunning" adventure with Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo, and there are some incredibly cool shots on display that make this a must-see on the big screen.
But that's not all, because the "Tmnt" marketing department is also having the kind of fun that the turtles are known for while hyping up "Mutant Mayhem," which already has a sequel and animated series in development. They reached back into the depths of the internet...

Paramount Pictures, one of the few legacy studios to appear at San Diego Comic-Con 2023, brought the animated “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” to the Hall H stage on Thursday.
Without talent in tow, director Jeff Rowe and “Tmnt” creator Kevin Eastoman took the Hall H stage and kicked off the panel with a sizzle reel that featured a look back at the Turtles from the 1990s New Line movie all the way up to the beloved animated series. Rogen and Ice Cube, who plays Superfly in the animated film, added that they wanted to “give the turtles real teenager problems.”
The panel then previewed 20 minutes of footage from the film. Some highlights included the turtles arming their various ninja weapons...
