“I was just born with this creepy face! And I'll GET you one day, mate! GAAR har har har har!”
― Gonzo, Animal Crossing
Gonzo (ゴンゾー, Gonzō?) is a crankykoalavillager from the Animal Crossing series. His initial phrase, "mate", is a stereotypical Australian phrase for a friend. He was initially exclusive to GCN games, but has been found in the data for Happy Home Designer. His name most likely comes from the muppet with the same name. He has the nature hobby.
Gonzo returned to the series in New Leaf, as part of the Welcome amiibo update. By scanning amiibo cards, this villager can be met via the campground and invited to the town.
Gonzo is a gray koala, with white fur around his mouth and on his paws. He has a small tuft of white hair on his head, and thick white eye brows. He has small, beady black eyes, a light brown nose, and the insides of his ears are pink. Prior to New Horizons, he wears the Earthy Knit shirt. As of New Horizons, he wears a Reindeer Sweater.
Personality
Below is a brief description of the cranky personality. For more information, click here.
Cranky villagers will usually appear in a grouchy or agitated mood. When talking to the player, cranky villagers tend to become angry if the player disagrees with them or refuses to do a favor. Like all cranky villagers, Gonzo will be invested in his hobby and will often challenge the player to various competitions. He will easily get along with jock, snooty, and other cranky villagers, and occasionally lazy and normal villagers as well. However, he will find it hard to socialize with peppy villagers, as they will seem overstimulated or immature.
House[]
Gonzo has a boxing ring theme for a house. He has quite a bit of the Professional Wrestling series. He has K.K. Rock playing in his house when he obtains a stereo. In Animal Forest, he has a Japanese theme to his house with four gyroids (Clankoids).
In New Leaf, Gonzo's house and RV are themed after a bank. K.K. D&B plays if he obtains a stereo.
Gonzo has an almost creepy obsession with blue cheeses, although he won't mention it in public. He even calls Gorgonzola cheese "Gor-GONZO-la", if you can believe it. Cheese-lovers are a strange bunch...
His English catchphrase, "mate", is a reference to Australia. Those from Australia (stereotypically) refer to their friends as "mate". There is also the stereotypical greeting, "G'day, mate!".
His e-Card bio states that he is obsessed with cheese. This is referenced in his New Leaf picture quote - "Brothers are brothers, cheese is cheese."
Gonzo shares his birthday with the smug pig Chops. Both of them have a birthday on October 13th.
In New Horizons, Gonzo's preferred styles are Cool/Simple, and his preferred colors are Black/Green.
