The theatre was first built in the 6th century BCE. Modified and expanded over the centuries, it is the oldest Greek theatre and is the site where some of the most famous Greek plays from antiquity were first performed. Actors in masks. The Greeks used masks that showed emotions in order for the big audiences to see. The emotions were usually angry, sad or funny. Some masks had two sides. The actors also wore big wigs, and padded costumes to look fatter or stronger. Sometimes they even had thick-soled shoes to make them taller.
