Raw shea butter is unprocessed and has a natural ivory color and nutty aroma. Refined shea butter undergoes a refining process that removes impurities, resulting in a white, odorless butter. Unrefined shea butter is minimally processed, retaining some of its natural color, scent, and nutrients. It is best to use raw or unrefined shea butter for its full benefits, while refined shea butter is often used in cosmetic formulations due to its lack of odor and color. More details in the article. There is a difference between yellow shea butter and ivory shea butter. I love both, but you can't really find a good answer online for this. In a nutshell, yellow shea butter has been tinted with the root of the Borututu tree roots which is used to add properties to the Shea butter and it turns it yellow. So you get the benefits of Shea butter plus the benefits of this root. I find yellow Shea butter to be a little on the oily side, which I don't particularly mind.
