There’s a fluid, natural progression between them, and at the same time, practicing to throw pots like this, replicating the same shapes only smaller and larger, reproducing proportions such as the opening at the top, the sloping in rim and the height and width of the vessels, is superb practice and a great way of improving how you ‘see’ objects. This is moment I long for when creating pottery, trimming clay at this perfect leather hard state, the curls of clay spiralling away, the sharp tungsten blades slicing away long ribbons of clay.  Each component acting like a chuck for the other helps streamline this process.
