One of the main differences between a wigwam and tepee is that tepees are very portable, and wigwams are much more stationary. Wigwams are dome-shaped while teepees are more tent-like. Wigwams and tepees were both dwellings where many Native American tribes lived.

Once westering pioneers reached their destination, they had to build homes. Those homes reflected the available natural resources of the land. In forested areas, log homes were popular. Some areas in rocky terrain used stones. Some in the Southwest, where clay was plentiful, used adobe. On the Great Plains, sod houses, called “soddies,” were the most common abodes. (There were some wealthier settlers who brought pre-cut timber cabin kits with them offered through the Sears & Roebuck catalog…

. The Little House was where the Ingalls family lived in Walnut Grove, and later, the Carter family. The Ingalls family moved to Plum Creek after being ordered to leave their home in Kansas by the government, because they were on the wrong side of territorial lines. They Finally moved to Iowa and sold the farm to the Carter family. It was among the very few buildings not destroyed in 1901 when the townspeople of Walnut Grove blew the town up.
