When 72-year-old Stacy Thompson realized she was nearing the age of no longer being able to work, she wanted to be sure she was self-sufficient so she wouldn’t wind up living in someone’s spare room or being a burden to anyone. So, she bought a “Better Built Barns” shed from Lowe’s and enlisted some friends to help her convert it into her future home.

Not only did their 'shed home' turn out gorgeous, but it's completely changed their lives. Would you move into a shed and share a single bathroom with your four children? Well, Kelly and Beau Brotherton did and it suits them just fine. Converting a 16′ x 48′ shed into a cozy home has allowed them to work toward their goal of being debt-free in their 30s. In addition to building their home on 7 acres of raw land, they also turned that land into a self-sufficient farm.
