Despair is the physical personification of the concept of despair, sadness and depression, and one of the Endless. She is a cruel sadist who often conspires with her twin, Desire, often bringing her into conflict with her older brother, Dream.

Despair was created by Neil Gaiman and Mike Dringenberg, first appearing in Sandman (Volume 2) #10 (1989).
