Metallo was a Kryptonite-powered cyborg and old enemy of Superman

Metallo and Superman were enemies before the hero departed from Earth for many years.

Upon Superman's eventual return, Metallo was inspired to terrorize Metropolis once again. Metallo spawned an army of robots to create chaos throughout the city. Though Superman beat Metallo in a fight, the villain escaped, and his minions continued to wreck havoc.

Metallo fought Superman two more times before the Man of Steel finally captured him. Though Superman insisted the villain surrender, Metallo surprised him by unleashing the radiation from his Kryptonite heart to incapacitate Superman. Metallo then assimilated the metallic and electronic debris of the battlefield into his body, transforming into a cybernetic giant.

When Superman recovered, he sprung into action to fight Metallo one more time before he could do too much damage. When Metallo sensed he was on the verge of defeat, he launched a gigantic missile at a nearby skyscraper, counting on Superman to let up on his assault to intercept it. Superman quickly stopped the rocket then returned to defeat Metallo.

Metallo had one final move to use against Superman and bombarded him with Kryptonite energy beams from his eyes. However, through sheer force of will, Superman withstood the full fury of Metallo's attack and dove through Metallo's core, yanking Metallo's original body from inside and ending their conflict.
