Warlord's magical friend from the Age of Wizards. Despite his eccentric nature, Mongo possessed notable skills in performing small-scaled feats of magic. However, he struggled when it came to greater endevours. Surprisingly, Mongo had knowledge of present-day Earth, which allows him to summon cigars and martinis for himself.

Machiste and Mariah encountered Mongo Ironhand when they were both drawn back in time from present-day Skartaris to the Age of Wizards. Together, they ventured to visit the esteemed head wizard Wralf the Wretched in the hopes he could help the lost time travellers. Meanwhile, Warlord utilized the Hellfire Sword in the present to travel back to the Age of the Wizard Kings to reunite with his friends. Travis engaged in a fierce battle against the malevolent Wralf, resulting in the wizards death through the blade that was cursed by the Evil One and wouldn't stop till it had tasted blood. With the sword's power, Travis returned to his own time, while Machiste and Mariah chose to remain in the past.

The Necronomicon, Wralf's book of evil magic, was subsequently stolen by the wizard Sarrgon Fire-Eye. However, Mongo and Mariah managed to defeat Sarrgon and reclaim the book. Unfortunately, the book fell into the hands of a goblin-like creature named Craetor. Craetor, under the influence of a spell from the Necronomicon, transformed into the physical embodiment of the malevolent Evil One. Engaging in a ruthless slaughter of powerful wizards, the Evil One left Mongo as the ninth in line to become the head wizard.

In an effort to thwart the Evil One, Travis Morgan and his sorceress daughter Jennifer traveled back in time to Wizard World. While Jennifer battled the Evil One, Mongo and the Warlord dealt with the Necronomicon. Their actions caused the Evil One to abandon Craetor's body, returning it to its original form.

Powers

  • Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-One era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985–86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and should be considered apocryphal.
  • Originally, Mongo was considered the 38th in line to becoming Sorcerer Supreme until Wralf's death, making him the 37th.[1] When the Evil One later began targetting other wizards in line to becoming Sorcerer Supreme, he was then the 10th after the death of fellow wizard, Fungo Blacknose.[2]
