Mary Wickes was an American film and television character actress and voice actress, who served as the live-action model for Cruella De Vil in One Hundred and One Dalmatians and lent her voice to the character Freckles in the film. She also did the voice of Laverne in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, in what would be her final role before her death from complications from surgery; she did not record all her lines before she died, and Jane Withers was brought in to record the rest of them. Withers later provided the voice of Laverne in The Hunchback of Notre Dame II, which was released in 2002, seven years after Wickes' death.
Wickes is known for her role as Sister Mary Lazarus in Sister Act and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit with Whoopi Goldberg. She also played Clara in Napoleon and Samantha, Miss Wigginton in Snowball Express, Katie in the Annette serial on TV's The Mickey Mouse Club, and Dolores Bastinado in Zorro.
Outside of Disney, Wickes has appeared in films, like Now, Voyager, The Actress, On Moonlight Bay, White Christmas, It Happened to Jane, Cimarron, The Music Man, Little Women (1994), The Trouble with Angels, and Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows. For television, she appeared in shows, like The Danny Thomas Show, Dennis the Menace, Mrs. G. Goes to College, The Lucy Show, Temple Houston, Julia, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, and Father Dowling Mysteries.
