The Royal Ship is a sailing ship briefly featured in Disney's 2013 animated feature film, Frozen, and its 2019 sequel. It was the mode of transportation that King Agnarr and Queen Iduna used for their voyage to find the fabled river Ahtohallan.
Appearances[]
Frozen[]
The ship is first seen during a break montage of "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?", when Agnarr and Iduna are shown to be going on a two-week trip. While decked in Arendelle, Iduna walks up the gangplank to board the ship while Agnarr is still on the deck with Kai and the luggage. The next scene shows the ship caught in a storm on the sea before it capsizes and is engulfed by a monstrous wave. Agnarr and Iduna subsequently perish, presumably by drowning, after the ship is consumed in the sea.
Frozen II[]
The ship appears in the second film. Sometime after Agnarr and Iduna's deaths, the wreck of the ship washes in from the Dark Sea and on to a dried estuary up north, a distance away from the Enchanted Forest, Iduna's former home.
Six years after the couples' death, their daughters, Elsa and Anna, come to the forest with their friends to search for a voice that is calling to Elsa, during which they meet the Northuldra tribe, along with two of the elemental spirits, Gale and Bruni. After leaving the Northuldra encampment, while inadvertently leaving Kristoff and Sven behind, Bruni guides Elsa, Anna, and Olaf further north. Gale reappears and leads the girls to what remains of their parents' ship. Exploring it, the sisters conclude that the ship had washed in from the Dark Sea, then they discover a map with a route to Ahtohallan in the ship's waterproof compartment. Remembering what Olaf had said earlier that "water has memory", Elsa uses her powers to collect water still onboard the ship and creates ice figures of her parents, showing them in their final moments just before they died.
Though heartbroken by seeing the figures, they help Elsa and Anna realize that their parents used the ship under a guise of crossing the Southern Sea, when in fact they were heading north of Arendelle with the intention of crossing the Dark Sea to find Ahtohallan, where they hoped to gain answers about Elsa's powers.
