The 13th Warrior is a 1999 historical fiction action film directed by John McTiernan and based on the Michael Crichton novel Eaters of the Dead as well as Beowulf. Crichton himself took over directing reshoots. It stars Antonio Banderas, Diane Venora, and Omar Sharif.

Synopsis[]

A poet from Baghdad falls in love with the Sultan's wife. As punishment, he is sent as an "ambassador" to a faraway land where he encounters Vikings who train him to face an evil threat as their thirteenth warrior.

Trivia[]

  • Graeme Revell was the original composer, but after disastrous test screenings, Michael Crichton had his music replaced with Jerry Goldsmith.
  • Despite Susan Willis getting credit as Wendol Mother, she was actually recast in reshoots by Kristen Cloke.
  • One of the Viking ships now resides at the Norwegian Pavilion at EPCOT.
