The tenement house at 21/23 Wieniawskiego Street in Poznań had been stirring up a lot of emotion among residents for years. The historic building from 1904 in the city centre had stood empty for several years and was deteriorating. The villa's beautiful architecture had become one of the most characteristic elements of the area, so it was difficult to see its potential being wasted. Project: Demiurg Photo: Szymon Kavka

It is well known that a person's surroundings influence his or her mood and approach to life. The energetic japanese-style interior, filled with unobvious colours and shapes, was designed by Joanna Felczuk and Anna Baranowska of Butterfly Studio. Styling for the session was prepared by Eliza Mrozinska, and the photographs were taken by Patryk Polewany.

Iconic furniture, treasures of the past and self-made details - all to create a place with soul. In this way, the atmospheric interior of a tenement house from the early 20th century was given a completely new lease of life. What does the flat of the specialist in unusual design look like? As the world changes rapidly, so do cities and the lifestyles and needs of their inhabitants. Many historic buildings are being redeveloped and thus given a new life. Biuro Obróbki Przestrzeni (Office for the Transformation of Space) reveals the background to this process. The project created by this studio in the historic building of the Customs Office in Wrocław is an excellent example of how the heritage of previous generations can dialogue with the present. Here is an exquisite pied-à-terre for a couple whose personal affairs and cultural passions regularly bring them to Warsaw. In order to respond to the needs of the investors and at the same time to the requirements of a building in a historic setting, the author of the project - architect Roland Stańczyk, owner of RS Studio - has skilfully combined old and new, classic and avant-garde themes. Art also has an important place here. The realisation has just been honoured with the A'design Award 202
