The death of Osama bin Laden occurred on May 1, 2011 when U.S. military forces shot and killed Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad, Pakistan and then seized his body. President Obama reported that bin Laden was killed by a small special operations team. The operation was carried out by Joint Special Operations Command forces in Pakistan working with the CIA. After careful monitoring of a compound suspected to be bin Laden's residence in Pakistan, U.S. military forces were sent across the border of Afghanistan to launch the attack.[1] DNA tests were performed on bin Laden's late sister to confirm the corpse's identity. Further reports will be disclosed in the upcoming days. Pakistani officials confirmed that Osama was killed in Pakistan by the US military, possibly by a headshot while leaving from a mansion.[2] The body was recovered by the US military and is currently in its custody.[3]

In an address to the nation on May 1, 2011, US president Barack Obama confirmed the death of bin Laden by U.S military forces.[4]
