We would avoid going downstairs for months at a time, mostly because we hadn’t waterproofed and finished the space, and because nobody would willingly descend a dimly lit, dreary stairway to a basement with no windows. I’m so glad I went for this vibrant fruit stripe stair runner when I installed this rug. I can’t think of a better solution to brighten up a stairway with color. The stair runner ends on the top riser, we then painted the very top step / floorboard in @farrowandball Railings to create an end to the stair colour. The floorboards were sanded and sealed with @osmo_uk in Polyx-oil raw matt finish. We have floorboards in the bedrooms so I think having it run through the landing too creates continuity. Do you have floorboards on your landing or do you prefer a cosy carpet? . DETAILS The stair carpet runner is from @hughmackaycarpets and called Deco Collection Two Tone Magpie Stripe. We bought from a local carpet shop and they also organised the fitting. The stairs are painted in Railings by @farrowandball. Sophie Higgs on Instagram: "Stairs Panelling🤍 A few tips on how we carried the panelling in our hallway up the stairs. Swipe along to see ➡️ To get the line for the dado rail on the stairs we put wall tacks at the bottom and top of the stairs, the height we wanted the dado rail 1000mm from the floor. Then we got a piece of string, coloured it one side with blue chalk, held the string tight on top of the tacks, (chalk side facing the wall with one person holding it at the bottom of the stairs and one person at the top. You’ll then have a straight chalk line all the way down the stairs wall to attach the dado to. Very hi-tech hey?! 🤣 It would be much easier with a laser level but we don’t have one!
