Each game starts with an interior box built from 1/2" - 9 ply- baltic birch. This consists of an interior drawer, also out of baltic birch. Corner squares insure absolute squareness to the box being built. A "glue & screw" method is used. In addition, a 1/2" baltic base allows for a rotating lazy-susan to have a secure mounting. Then a 5/8" solid Maple top is glued up out of alternating wood direction slats of 1 1/4" Maple. A CNC program is used to cut all recesses into the wood face. This produces a raised grid effect that sufficiently holds the letter tiles in place when rotating the scrabble box during game play. All Word Score Squares are made out of 1/8" thick individual squares to fit in the deeper recesses. Each one of the exotic squares are then engraved with the appropriate score lettering. After that, a 3/8" Curly Maple exterior is attached to the outside using mitered corners. Bubinga hardwood - cut out "V"s - are then used to trim the boxes out. The rotating susan is attached to a 1/2" birch 9 ply circular base. The entire assembly weighs in at, over 15 lbs.
