Born in Nigeria, raised between Port Harcourt, the United Kingdom and the US, Kio has had a multicultural upbringing that greatly influences his perspective and work. He was raised in a West African Christian home by a single parent; prominent English-born, Nigerian environmental and human rights activist Ann-Kio Briggs. During his childhood, he took up the Arts, with a passion for fine art, music and poetry. He also took on his physical education with a passion for basketball, football, track & field and polo, he was consistently a tournament MVP.

It was during his move to the United Kingdom at fifteen years old, to follow his sporting pursuits in football and to further his studies in Design, Advertising and Marketing, that Briggs began his experience in entertainment as a model and actor; Briggs featured at eighteen years old as ‘Gavin’ in “The Uneventful Life of Gerrard Giles”, a short film that won ‘Best International Screenplay (Short)’ at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival in 2010.

After his Masters Degree from the University of Exeter, Briggs shortly worked in the financial industry; burnt out and stressed, he eventually left this job and spent a year seeking adventure and freedom during a year of travelling; what followed was the beginning of a new life, career and understanding - a story which he discusses in his first project, his self-published title, “Living Free: The High Philosophy”, (2017). In ‘Living Free’, Briggs discusses his decision to commit to a path of freedom, and on this path grew his thirst for observing and understanding his ensuing experience of life. During the height of the coronavirus pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement, Briggs released “Meditations: on Freedom” (2020), an illustrated pocketbook filled with refreshing, digestible anecdotes that inspire readers to reflect on their mental wellbeing, purpose and lifestyle moving forward.

Briggs is an Entrepreneur and the founder of “Gifted, by Nature”, an arts and entertainment production house that invests, amplifies and supports artists in literature, music, sustainable fashion, fine art, screen and performance entertainment; centralising narratives around personal growth, mindfulness, sustainability, social activism and self expression. He is also an avid painter, working with watercolour and oils - in 2019 he exhibited his work “That’s Cool”, a painting that explores societal biases in our thoughts and projections onto young black men, for their cultural expression of themselves, highlighted in their chosen dress code.
