She was irresistible to every man…except one

Lily Borsage is the ultimate siren: gorgeous, aloof and irresistible to all the men in Bayou La Siryna. All of them, that is, until Nashoba Bowman comes back to town. The Native American kid whose innocent first kiss Lily remembers fondly is now all grown-up, hot as an Alabama summer—and immune to Lily's charms. What self-respecting mermaid could resist finding out more?

But Nash has a dark history that puts any woman he loves in grave danger, and a heritage of power he isn't ready to accept. And Lily has a secret that no mortal man can ever know. When a mysterious enemy starts menacing Lily, they will both have to risk everything—and embrace their deepest destinies—if they want to survive.

Having read and loved Debbie's previous books, I was very excited when she told me about her latest Mermaid romance, Siren's Call which is the story of Lily Bosarge. I jumped at the chance to review it and am so glad that I did.

The cover is beautiful and intriguing and the blurb further takes our interest forward and will surely make a reader take notice of the book.

I had already read the stories of the other two Bosarge sisters, Shelly and Jet in Siren's Secret and Siren's Treasure and in both these stories met Lily and with her spell casting Siren's voice and her mesmerizing beauty, she was an enigma who had intrigued me and left me eager to read her own story.

Finally, in Siren's Call, Debbie tells her story and gives the readers a real insight into her character. Lily is a true siren and with all her beauty, expected to marry a merman but she wants to find true love first. Deeply loyal to her family and often misunderstood by people including her family, she finds herself yearning for true love and tired of explaining to everyone that she is not what they think, she has closed herself inside a shell.

In comes Nash, a Native American and a man she met as a boy, became friends and then fell in love with but he left. Now he is back and surprisingly, not affected by her siren voice. He has a secret of his own which he does not want to disclose and is determined not to let anyone near him. But Lily is determined to try for her love one last time. Will she succeed in making Nash realize that they are perfect together?

Debbie's writing style is simple, engaging and flows effortlessly making the reader live her stories. She took me to Lily's world with all the beauty of the Bayou and Nash's small cabin surrounded by the forest with its many sounds and smells. The world building is stunning and the author merges reality with fantasy so beautifully that nowhere did I feel as if something was stretched too far. The suspense, drama and danger angle is also handled admirably and I really got frightened and chilled with the mysterious killer on the loose, praying for my favourite characters' safety.

This is a fast paced story with a heartfelt family drama, a sensual and heartwarming romance and the thrill of danger that kept me hooked to the book and sitting at the edge of my seat right till the end. There is suspense, paranormal developments and emotional play that had me seeing all the characters through new eyes. A definite winner, I totally enjoyed reading this book.

All in all, Siren's Call is a lovely book that I absolutely loved and strongly recommend to all lovers of romance. 4.5 out of 5 to it and I look forward to reading more from Debbie in the future. She is a very talented writer and has made a place in my list of favourite authors.

I received an ARC from the author and I am very thankful to her. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

I love all kinds of mythological creatures, and mermaids are especially fascinating. There is something about their life underwater that intrigues me to no end (and spurred me to write my WIP, the paranormal romance novel “In Deep Water”). So I was overjoyed to take part in the ARC Review Tour for “Siren's Call” by Debbie Herbert.

The cover is simply gorgeous (as are her other covers), and the story is just that too, gorgeous.

At the heart of the plot is the beautiful Lily with her tempting voice that makes her a true siren. She’s determined to find true love instead of following the rules, and that simple concept is enough to leave the reader with a wealth of fascinating facts, swoonworthy scenes and imagination running wild. Lily wants the one thing – or man – she can’t have and who at first doesn’t seem to want her, but there are more layers to the story, like finding herself, fighting prejudice, battling an unknown evil, and coming to terms with the expectations of her family.

What made the story even more complex and gripping is the fact that the hero isn’t just a gorgeous hunk of an alpha male, and charismatic to boot, but a Native American with a secret of his own. Nash is hotter than hot, and I fell for him just as hard as Lily. The two knew each other before, but now everything is different. It was interesting to see how Lily portrays herself and how and who she really is deep down; something that probably rings true for a lot of young women who don’t have the siren problem. Seeing some things from Nash’s point of view helped to get the bigger picture.

I really enjoyed the modern, crisp, at times also sensual, style of the author, it fit the paranormal romance novel well. I’ll definitely read the other two books of the series!

Debbie Herbert has done it again, bringing her readers the magic of attraction and romance tinged with danger and the unknown.

Love this book. Just like the others in this series, this novel is filled with things that will make you swoon--most especially the male lead. Of the three books I have read in this series, this one is my favourite. It was nice to get updates on the lives of previously featured characters, and I really felt like the author tied everything together in this novel.

Debbie Herbert is really good at building unique situations for her characters and creating the kind of chemistry between them that you want to see in a romance. Her couples feel really genuine and the story line feels very natural and not contrived.

It is easy to become swiftly involved in these stories and find yourself lost in the lives of these women. The setting was as beautiful and mysterious as the rest of the series, and makes you wonder if there just might really be mermaids in the Bayou.

This was a great novel, and one that I happily recommend. If you are looking for a story that has more than just a simple romance, this is the way to go.

This review is based on a complimentary copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

This paranormal novel #SirensCall has everything for a book lover like me with a dash of extra thrown in! Not only was the story very solid but the characters of Sam and Opal too were so well etched even though they were not the main lead in the book! Lily and Sam had good help and support from all corners to make a perfect love story. The supernatural element was so well scripted in the story line that I want to read the stories of the other two sisters as well. The story line is a typical romance but the nocturne line of novels always delights and this book is no different. The language is so expressive and the elements of the spirit world shared with such faith and humility making me want to know more, learn more.

Lily and Nash are so similar to each other in their passions and nature; they are perfect for each other even though they themselves are not so sure. Both of them are trying in their own way to maintain a distance while the other wants to be together. Lily is surprised Nash does not want her and Nash is surprised why he is so pulled towards Lily.

The romance is strong as is the chemistry; the paranormal adds an edge to the love story. I found it hard to put down the book as the story progressed at a steady pace and had so many surprise elements. The connection to the previous two books was also well explained, making me interested to know more about Bayou La Siryna and its residents.

The parallel story of Opal, her life and how unfair it can be sometimes made me so sympathetic towards her but in the end her actions pretty much sealed her faith. The author Debbie Herbert has ensured no loose ends and the Siren’s Call is just like its name; irresistible.

A fast paced read, perfect for the weekend and totally bang on if you are a big paranormal fan. This book reminded me that I need to read more such awesome, spirited books.

This is my favorite in the Dark Seas trilogy! The Choctaw legends and details are fascinating. Nash has his own unique abilities that bring a whole new aspect to this paranormal world. The sea was a given, but now we have an attachment and insight into the animals on land. Love!

I loved seeing Lily, who has so much confidence seemingly, truly find herself. I get so used to reading about people finding their confidence but it's also true that those who have it in spades in so many ways also struggle to come into their own.

We get to see the intriguing Tia again, but I fell for the new character Sam (Nash's grandfather). He brings most of the Choctaw details to life.

Thanks for the mermaid adventures and romance Herbert! I look forward to seeing what you do next!

This was Lily's story. She has an enchanting voice and is beautiful. Therefore, all women in town hate her. All of the men want her. (Oh please). In the previous couple of books, I felt she came across as cold and a little bit shallow. I wasn't looking forward to her story, but wanted to finish the trilogy.
I had a hard time getting into this one. Disappointing considering I liked 1 and 2. Learn early on who is targeting Lily. That was another disappointment. Really?! Nash was interesting and his ability. More background on mermaid mythology would have been nice, because what was there was unique/different.

For the final book in the Dark Seas miniseries, Debbie Herbert lets her imagination rise to new heights as one original situation after another takes place. The world where mermaids live amongst humans is brought to life in realistic ways, and I repeatedly felt as though these mythical creatures just had to be true. Each of the books in the miniseries has been very innovative, and this story grabbed my attention from the start and never let go until the satisfying conclusion. SIREN’S CALL is enchantingly inventive and makes you want to believe.

Since Lily Borsage is a mermaid and has the capability to influence men with her siren ability, she has not been popular with the women in her hometown of Bayou La Siryna, Alabama. Though not always welcome, it is not her fault that the male population reacts to her anytime they come in contact. When she approaches a stranger in a store, she is stunned when ignored yet feels herself drawn to him. Upon discovering he is Nashoba Bowman, she remembers him visiting the area years ago and cannot understand why the handsome Native American does not seem to be affected by her enticing sexuality.

Even though Nash does recall their youthful friendship, he knows keeping Lily away from him is best while he works on an assignment to photograph wildlife. Things did not end well for two women with whom he previously got close, and he does not want her added to such a tragic list. Lily wants to understand why Nash continues to reject her, and she is determined to learn his reason while keeping her own dual identity a secret. When her life is threatened, what each of them is hiding might have to be exposed or much will be lost.

The clever blending of mermaid myths and Native American legends sets the Dark Seas miniseries apart from other stories dealing with the supernatural. With fascinating characters and wondrous details, every scene in SIREN’S CALL is compellingly riveting. I thoroughly enjoyed the two prior books and the third story made me wish even harder for these fabled beings to actually exist. Debbie Herbert has a talent for making every moment of her books come across as truly believable, regardless of how mind-boggling an episode may appear. Any event including Native American folklore also seems credible, and I was often held spellbound during several of the more remarkable incidents.

There are so many extraordinary characters in the story, and I found each of them to be special in their own ways. Lily has always been told she is beautiful and men are always attracted to her, yet she feels very alone. She has now reached a stage in the life where having no real friends causes her much distress, and I felt for the woman who only wants to be loved. Nash is an absolutely incredible man, whose caring nature is shown by his actions time and again. He finds himself having to make some extremely difficult choices, and I held my breath while waiting for his decisions. Though a relationship between Nash and Lily does not seem likely at first, the powerful pull they feel is too much to disregard. Any sexual encounters are sensual and express just how much they desire each other, and I thought each moment they are intimate was so genuine. All of Lily’s close relatives are featured in the story, and it was great catching up on any new happenings. The grandfather of Nash was particularly interesting with all his Native American beliefs. Debbie Herbert makes SIREN’S CALL intriguingly memorable.

In ‘Siren’s Call’ we meet Lily Borsage, a siren. Lily is gorgeous and every man she meets is immediately attracted to her. Everything about Lily draws men in. And although Lily definitely likes being beautiful, being a siren isn’t easy. All woman hate her, and all the men think she’s playing with them. What they don’t know is that all that Lily want’s is to find true love. But this isn’t easy when every guy you meet doesn’t seem interested in you, but only in your body and your voice. And that’s not the only thing, she also has a secret she can’t talk to ‘normal’ people about: she is a mermaid.
One day she sees a very handsome man walking around town, soon she realizes he is her old friend Nash, and he is gorgeous. But Nash doesn’t seem interested in Lily at all. Isn’t he affected by her Siren abilities? Nash has secrets of his own, and really doesn’t want the attention of another woman. But Lilly doesn’t give up quickly.

This is the first book I read about mermaids. I always found mermaids fascinating but somehow never read a book about them. So I really enjoyed reading something a little different. This story immediately starts, there’s no slow introduction or getting used to the characters. From the very first page this book starts with Lily and Cash, and I really felt like I was reading this book longer than just for one page. It was a little strange to start a book like this, but it definitely made me interested in reading more.

This book was definitely not what I expected. I somehow thought this book would be kind of a fairytale, but it’s written in the present and it’s about the ‘real world’. Yes, the main character is a mermaid. But most of all, she just lives in a little town, enjoys painting and interacts with people like we all do.
Unfortunately I didn’t really like the main character Lily. She was just so arrogant, and although I know this is because she is a siren and has these powers.. the arrogance bothered me. Fortunately, Debbie Herbert’s writing is good enough that I really did enjoy the story, without liking the main character.

I loved the mystery part in this book, the romance and above all I loved the mermaid stuff. This book is definitely a nice summer read. Nothing too complicated, but just a fun book you can read while lying in the sun.

(From my blog)
I got the ARC of Siren's Call in exchange of an honest review !

I loved reading Siren's Call a lot ! I have a few things to tell you about this marvellous read but before, I'm 1 000% sure that this is a MUST READ ! If you like Paranormal Romance, you will want to read Siren's Call !

First, Siren's Call is beautifully written, a real page-turner that won't leave your mind, in case you have to put it aside because life happens. I was quickly and deeply immersed in Bayou La Siryna. There were so much unique and great pictures in this book and I'm so happy I got to discover this part of US. I have dreamt of traveling there to meet Nature and local traditions and it felt like I really did. In fact, I'm thinking about Siren's Call as a way to escape into both real and imaginary places.

Also, my book lover's heart was touched right away by endearing, strong and fascinating characters. It was a delight to get to know them as they struggled with their demons to find their way back to light. I loved how Lily is fragile, yet brave and open. She had no friends, was kind of lonely and had to deal with her mother's expectations. But she somehow still managed to be free and caring. She is inspiring and I would love to have her as a friend.

About Nash, well... Hot and intense are the first words that come in my mind when I think about this character. He also had to deal with issues regarding his past and his true self. Chapters after chapters, he was revealed as someone utterly beautiful, passionate and complicated. Their love story was everything I love and reflected their personnality perfectly. The two of them were... well, the word perfection comes to mind.

Last thing you need to know is how unique, magical and compelling the universe of Bayou La Siryna was to me. And I'm deeply conviced it will attract and please many readers, even those who don't enjoy Paranormal as much as I do. The Romance was balanced, realistic and, again, really beautiful.

I hope you will consider buying Siren's Call and that you liked my review. I will definitly check Debbie Herbert other books. But in the meantime, I thank Debbie and Nikkita (the tour organizer) for bringing Siren's Call to me.

Happy reading !

Although this is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. While I wasn't able to read the first two books (yet), I still enjoyed reading Lily and Nash's story.

I liked that they were childhood friends but they separated when Nash had family trouble.

Lily is a full siren and because of her allure as a Siren, people misjudged or exaggerated her love life. In a sense, some of it were her fault but she acknowledged that. Lily might have barriers but she is loyal to her family even if her mother wants her to marry a merman. In this, she too wants to find true love. Then comes, Nash, the Native American who used to be her friend and her first kiss. As she tries to bait Nash with her Siren wiles, Nash is immune to her. This of course puzzled her at the same time while they both have feelings of lust for each other, Nash tries to avoid Lily because of his past in women.

At first, I thought Lily's personality was shallow but then I learned more about her and I understood her. It's the same with Nash since he used to be a lady's man (still is).

I liked how Lily stood up for herself and that she's very loyal to her sister especially to one particular person who is always let down by her mother. She's protective of her family and will do anything to help them. Plus, even though other females treated her badly, she still was able to treat them kindness.

Her relationship with Nash was both funny and frustrating. Like her I wondered why Nash was immune to her. I finally got the answer with that twist somewhere. There's more to Nash and his heritage.

One other character I liked was Nash's grandfather. Even though he lead a good long life, I pitied him because of the decisions he made and when he lost his wife, Nash's grandmother.

I won't spoil the rest but all I can say that Nash's past is finally catching up to him which means Lily's in danger and he might be the only one who can save her.

About the Book
Right from the beginning I felt drowned in the wonderful narrative of by Debbie Herbert. The startup of the story and initial chapters were so intriguing that the book was almost unputdownable for me. However, in the middle part, I felt the story dragging involving the unnecessary events and narrations. But the effect of story dragging very soon vanished as the story proceeded towards the end. The ending was no less than a high voltage thriller.

The Story
The story is set on an island beach of Bayou La Siryna.
The childhood friends Lily who is an irresistibly beautiful & an exquisite mermaid and Nash who reunite here after a long span of time after their childhood.
During the passing years, Nash had gone through a few mysterious incidents and they stop him from expressing his love to Lily. And on the other hand, Lily is committed by all means to gain the love of Nash at any cost. Gradually they both started up with their old unbroken friendship and advances towards expressing their bond of love.

This is the time when a mysterious character enters in the life of Nash and Lily and starts disturbing their love life. Events unfolding then on are very gripping that turns the book into a high voltage drama.

Synopsis
This was my first book in a few ways, to be precise; this was the first one for me in the Dark Seas trilogy and my first read involving paranormal / supernatural creatures and powers. I must thank Nikita Johri for providing me the opportunity to review this book.

I would like to read more of the magic created by Debbie Herbert.

Siren’s Call, by Debbie Herbert, appropriately enough is being released on June 1st, 2015. I say “appropriately” because this book does, after all, feature a mermaid as its leading female character – and since summer is almost upon us, Siren’s Call will makes for a fitting beach or pool read.

Siren’s Call is also the conclusion to Herbert’s Dark Seas series, but never fear – this title can still be read as a stand-alone novel. Per Herbert’s letter to the reader (prior to the beginning of this tale), Siren’s Call is sort of about redemption for Lily. While I’m uncertain how much mischief she got into in the prior two books – it is quite obvious from the very beginning of this ‘tail’  that Lily is intensely disliked in her home town.

Then, of course, there’s Nashoba Bowman, aka Nash, who just returned to the Bayou and is the polar opposite of Lily. He’s dark – she’s fair. He’s brooding – she’s lighthearted. He’s well-liked by all – and she, well…as previously mentioned, she’s practically hated. The additional bad news for Lily is that she feels an instant attraction to Nash; however, Nash seems to be immune to her ‘siren’s’ charms. Lily has never before met a man who didn’t immediately want her; to say that she’s thrown for a loop is probably the understatement of the year.

With that said, I’ll leave the rest of the story alone – allowing the reader to discover all the mystery, intrigue, and romance that Siren’s Call holds.

In summary, Siren’s Call was a fun read. Well-written, appropriately suspenseful where needed and overall an engaging read.

Disclaimer: I received an advance copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

From the first two books in this series, we know that Lily Bosarge is beautiful and has a strange power over any man she encounters. There's also some question as to how deadly she is. Herbert starts the book showing us Lily's vulnerabilities, which immediately drew me in and made her sympathetic. When I opened the book to take a peek, I didn't mean for it to jump to the top of my TBR pile, but it did, and I would have finished it all in one sitting if I'd been able to.

Seemingly perfect Lily doesn't have a perfect life in spite of being a super rich, attractive mermaid who can have any man she wants. Except one. With Nashoba Bowman, the author moves away from the lawman heroes of the previous books and brings us an oh-so-hot Native American nature photographer. While Jet in book two is still my favorite heroine of the series, Nash is by far my favorite hero. Plus I enjoyed the Native American lore woven into the book.

Of course there are fun underwater scenes and great romantic tension. This was a perfect end to a wonderful series, and I can only hope there are spinoffs in the future because I'm not ready to say goodbye to these fishy ladies and their hunky menfolk quite yet.

This was a lovely story. I liked Lily the siren. She grows in the story and learns what love is, and how it means sacrifice and keeping others' secrets. Nash is wonderful though dim. I mean, he resists and resists the evidence before his eyes and really bugged me with his insistence that he didn't want to follow his destiny. Loved the grandfather.

"Herbert’s descriptions are quite colorful, and her depiction of Nash’s reticence over forming a relationship and Lilly’s feelings over her treatment by townspeople are spot on, as is her portrayal of the stalker’s craziness" (RT Book Reviews, 4 stars).

Siren’s Call by Debbie Herbert is the superb conclusion to the Dark Seas trilogy about the Bosarges of Bayou La Siryna, Alabama.

Lily Bosarge is the quintessential mermaid. She has the long blonde hair, large blue eyes, luminous skin, and the siren voice which compels men to do her bidding. Although she has dated almost every man around and longs for love, she has never experienced it. As soon as she realizes she can’t return a man’s feelings, she breaks things off, but her long list of conquests has turned the women against her. They are all afraid she will steal their men, sometimes with good reason. Though she doesn’t quite realize or understand the pain she has provoked in others, Lily has caused a lot of damage to couples in the area.

When Lily’s childhood friend, Nashoba Bowman returns, Lily is drawn to him from the moment she sees him. However, he treats her with barely a fraction of the warmth they once felt for one another and seems immune to her siren voice. Lily can’t understand it because he’s the first man ever to be unimpressed by her charms. The more he avoids her, the more she’s hooked.

Nash isn’t unaffected by Lilly, but he’s come back to the bayou for a reason. He has a job to do, and once he’s finished it, he’ll leave. He doesn’t have time for a fling. Women fall too hard and fast for him and get hurt when he moves on. All he wants is to spend time with his elderly grandfather and photograph the local wildlife, but someone has other plans for him, plans that could lead to danger for any woman close to him.

I loved this book, which brought the last of the Bosarge women to her destiny. Siren’s Call had romance, suspense, satisfying growth by Lily and Nash, and the opportunity to enjoy the characters from the first two books, Siren’s Secret and Siren’s Treasure, which feature Shelly Bosarge and Jet Bosarge.

In my opinion, Lily was the hardest of the three to warm up to in the first two books. She acted cold and insensitive to her effect on men and the damage it did to the women whose husbands or boyfriends dumped them to pursue Lily.

Ms. Herbert does a magnificent job of showing Lily’s growth as she develops empathy for others and regrets her past dalliances. Despite her beauty and gifts, Lily is vulnerable. She feels the pain of rejection by the women of the town but won’t let anyone see it. She longs for love but doesn’t think she will ever experience it herself. By keeping the secret of her mermaid nature, she creates distance between herself and Nash, nearly ruining their relationship and putting herself in danger.

Nash is complex and nuanced. He has the looks and magnetism to draw Lily to him, no matter how often he pushes her away. However, he has secrets of his own and shuts down if she tries to get too close.

Lily and Nash must overcome tremendous obstacles, both internal and external, if they are to have a chance at happiness. I don’t want to include any spoilers in this review, so I will only say I teared up at the end of the book. I bet you will too.

Tropes: Childhood best friends to lovers, Destiny
TW: self harm, murder, racism, suicide

I originally picked this book up as a mystery book about “Monster Romace” from the local used book store. It happened to be my first mermaid ‘monster’ book too.

Sirens Call takes place in the bayous of Alabama which is full of mermaids/sirens and is engrossed with Native American lore. It has very mild spice & three points of perspective.

This triple point of view lets you behind the two main characters; as they figure out their developing feelings towards each other and behind an enemies view.
I thought having the enemy spoiled in the early chapters wouldn’t make the book as good, however it gave more depth to the character. I just wish the ending wasn’t so abrupt, like the author wasn’t sure what to do.

ONE OF THE MOST SELF-ABSORBED HEROINE EVER, she wasn't the least endearing and neither was the hero. Their meeting was also so cheesy...ughh this was bad. One of the worst mermaid stories I have encountered yet.

I never expected this trilogy. When I read Siren's Secret I was beyond excited. Mermaids have always been my fave mythological creatures. When I met Jet and Lily I wondered if they would get their own books and so they did.

This one follows up after Siren's Treasure. A recap: It was never revealed if Lily killed Perry or if it was an accident. Moreover the author mentioned that all would be revealed in Lily's book. I was intrigued by the inter racial coupling. Not that I have anything against it I actually find it fresh to have such diversity. I think more authors should celebrate this. I never expected Lily and Nashoba "Nash" to meet so quickly though.

As the book began, I got to see from Lily's pov. Looking at her from other people's eyes made me think she is was a pretty girl with not much brains but in ST she proved to be more. Having the women of Bayou La Siryna shun her was sad. But Lily's viewpoint is unique, she dates to find her true love but leaves as soon as she realizes it isn't what she is looking for. To put it simply, she casual dates and has broken a fair share of hearts. As a siren, Lily is used to people falling over their feet to please her so when Nash does not bat an eyelash her pride is bruised. Interestingly, Nash and her are childhood friends with quite a bond. She then begins a campaign to make Nash feel something for her. Quite desperately I might add.

I was not pleased with this. Lily is such a proud woman. To see her going out of her way to spend time with Nash was rather embarassing. It almost bothered on harassing. This was a turn off for me. I wanted to know more about Lily why she is the way she is and who she really is. I liked that they did not jump into bed immediately but took their time. But straddling the line between friends and lovers is tricky and I did not really like that they did not actually say "lets get together" before becoming all mushy. The romance was hot but the love scenes were just okay. I was pleased that they were not in excess like some books are wont to do. That is so annoying and frankly cheapens the story.

I love that the story did not center on them but included the other characters. I wanted Jet, Shelly, Landry, Tillman and Adriana to appear more and they did. To my joy. Family is a such a strong part of the trilogy, it definitely tells the reader to appreciate who you have despite their shortcomings and the relationship between Nash and Sam was special as well. I liked reading about the Choctaw ways and legends. I knew Nash was not normal but sadly, the way his powers were written was very cheesy especially at the beginning. But later as things were revealed about his heritage it seemed to flow better. I like how Tia Henrietta returns with her daughter The world of the bayou is multi layered and so enchanting. I just had to find out more. There are so many magical things that happen there. This is quite a world the author created.

What is a story without baddie? Opal really surprised me. It is not often that the villian is a female. It was unique to see a why a female would go so far as to kill someone. Looking into her past made me sad for her. She had many set backs and has low self esteem. Hence the mental disorder. I found it so ridiculous how she thought Nash loved her. What was really creepy was how she maintained a facade in front of Nash and Lily. That is the real crazy. But this aspect made the story thrilling.

I really wanted to find out what happened between Lily and Perry and find out I did. Like her family, There are layers to her character that I did not even know about till this book and boy was I glad to know more about her. I loved that she has a passion for drawing and painting. At least she is not just a pretty barbie and that like everyone else she gets nervous and has moments when she is not very confident. That made her easy to relate to.

Overall this was another nice installment. A shaky start but with a good middle and finish. I wonder what is next for the author, I would love another book based in this world!

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for this review.

Siren's Call is the 3rd installment of the Dark Seas trilogy, focusing on the Borsage sisters, Shelly, Jet, and Lily, who live in Alabama. Book 1, Siren's Secret, focused on Shelly, book 2, Siren's Treasure, focused on Jet, and book 3 focuses on Lily. To update everyone, Shelly married Tillman, the sheriff. Jet married Landry, a former FBI agent, and is pregnant. The Bosarge sisters are all mermaids, a secret known only to them and to their husbands. Lily has the gift of the siren's song, which attracts men to her. This makes the women in town very unhappy. One day at the grocery store, Lily runs into Nash, and old childhood friend, who is immune to Lily's siren song. Nash is a photographer, who came back to take pictures of the area. Since he is immune to her song, Lily wants him more. She also runs into Opal, Nash's assistant. The novel follows their interaction. Lily's mother comes to town to convince Lily to go back to the mermaid community. Nash's grandfather, who is dying, tries to convince Nash to stay. He also tells Nash of the legend of the Okwa Nahollo, a race of underwater creatures that live in the bayou. Nash and Opal have secrets of their own, which I won't reveal here because of spoilers.

Overall I thought the book was great, just like the first 2. The plotline was defined, with just enough twists to keep everyone interested. The characters of Lily, Nash, and especially Nash's grandfather were very well-developed. The climactic scene was very engrossing.

I had two issues with the book. First, the ending with Carl Desmukes. He had been threatening the sisters by claiming to have documents showing that Tillman's father had been embezzling from the county. He had been threatening them for all 3 books. It ended too abruptly, in the middle of the book. I would have liked to have seen it at least extended out to the end of the book. Second, the ending, which was designed to wrap up the trilogy, was too much a Disney movie "happily ever after" ending. I believe there should have been some tragedy in the ending.

These are just minor quibbles. All in all, it was a great book. She's currently working on her next book about the Okwa Nahollo. I look forward to it.

Full disclosure: The Okwa Nahollo is a Native American legend. The author stated that she did enhance some elements of the legend for dramatic purposes.

I read the review of this book on Goodreads and it instantly piqued my interest. I just HAD to read it! So happy that I could be a part of this tour.

Characters:

Meet Lily Borsage, the beautiful Mermaid, whose Siren's voice makes every man lose his heart to her. But Lily isn't just beautiful; as they say, she is beauty with brain. Talented but insecure and the one in search of true love among human men - that is Lily for starters.

Meet Nash - the irresistible man whom every woman fancy. Mysterious, powerful, confident and go-getter Nash has a secret which can change his life.

Plot:

Lily can get any man she want but her heart beats for the one whom she cannot have - Nash. When Lily meets her childhood friend Nash, she couldn't help but fall head over heels for him. Never been the one to face rejection, it isn't easy for Lily to cope up when Nash refuses to show any interest in her.

Nash on the other hand has a troubled past which holds him back from getting into a relationship. But when the beautiful Lily makes advances towards him constantly, it is difficult for him to stay aloof.

Sparks fly soon and Lily and Nash realize they cannot live without each other. But a happy ending is a far call. With a killer who singles out every woman who gets involved with Nash, with a mother who forces Lily to return to the Mer world and find a match there, with Lily's little secret hidden from Nash and then Nash's own secret that he is struggling to expect, their love is anything but cake walk. How long will they go to keep this love alive? Read the novel to find out.

Lily Borsage is a siren. A mermaid of the deep with a voice that leads men to heartbreak. Lily is the object of the men's attention in Bayou La Siryna and the talk of every woman. Male attention has never been an issue for Lily. When she runs into Nashoba Bowman, a long time childhood friend, Lily is puzzled why Nash ignores her siren wiles. But Nash is not without secrets of his own. After traveling the world as a renowned nature photographer, Nash is back in Bayou La Siryna on a job and to visit his ailing grandfather. But Nash's past is about to get up close and personal. Demons Nash thought he left behind are stalking him in the Bayou. While Lily is trying to keep her watery secret from Nash, Nash's past may cost Lily more than a mermaid's tale.

Debbie Herbert does a great job in blending the legend of the Siren into a supernatural romance. What I liked even more is Nash is of the Choctaw Nation and has a "supernatural" tale of his own. The story finds Lily in the grocery store trying to remain inconspicuous while a trio of town women are following her along with whispered comments behind her back. You feel Lily's inner struggle to rise above the taunting and take the high road when deep down she never asked for her life. When Nash is introduced, his arrival sets the town a talking and Lily is perplexed when he doesn't respond to her siren voice. As the story progresses, we start to realize there is more to Nash and the Bowman clan than Choctaw blood which lends an incredible twist to the story. As the story moves forward, you learn who the villain is, but you don't know their end game or how it will be pulled off. There were times I wanted to reach through the book and strangle Nash, for his hard headedness, but couldn't help but root for him and Lily in the end. Great read!

This is the third of Debbie Herbert's mermaid series following the last of the three mermaids - Lily. Lily is a siren who drives men wild with her song. Despite her beauty and wealth she's actually very lonely, women despise her and brand her a slut and everywhere she turns she can't escape male attention. Only one man seems immune, her childhood friend, Native American Nashoba Bowman, a nature photographer who returns home on a shoot.

This is my favourite of the mermaid books to date. I love the fact Lily is a siren and sympathise with her plight. I also really like the mythology this uses - no Hans Christian Anderson here. Mermaids are cast of angels that fell into the sea when Lucifer fell (Adore this idea and wish it got more development) we also have all the Native American legends of the Okwa Nahollo - water ghosts - This fuses the ideas really nicely. The setting - mermaids in the Bayou is also original and makes a nice change from ocean settings. The romance is pretty good and well paced - Also get a thumbs up for the ending which is very good.

So what didn't I like - the hero's name Nashoba - In all three books the heroes have dumb names and while in this one it is explained away as part of his Native American heritage, it still a bit off putting. Shortening to Nash is a bit better, but....

The OTT villain - its a little on the oh please! side of soap opera melodrama

Wasn't overkeen on the sex scenes - Particularly the exchange "'Lets do it' she said raggedly/'No way' he shook his head' - it made me smile for the wrong reasons.

Over all though, I really liked this one. Other than the villain, its a highly original mermaid romance and definitely one of the better novels in the genre.

I received a digital ARC of this book from the author via NjKinny Tours and Promotions in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. Thanks for the copy! All are my own opinion and is not compensated by any individual, organization, or company. This might contain minor spoilers.

Siren’s Call is a mermaid-themed fantasy novel. As far as I can remember, this is my first mermaid-centered story, so I urge myself not to expect anything because expecting might ruin my reading experience. I love fantasy stories. I love mythical creatures--and a siren or mermaid is popularly known as one.

Debbie Herbert decorates the mermaid main character, Lily, with traits that we commonly hear from anywhere. Eyes, hair, skin, and body types--all fitting for a goddess appearance. Alluring and seductress--so the myths say. With all of this amazing features Lily have, I still did not like her. She seems so shallow and a bit arrogant. She’s not someone I’ll enjoy to have company with, lest I might grow tired of her. The reason may be because I haven’t read the previous books in the series; I might like her if I did. On the other hand, Nash seems to be a simplistic guy despite him having girl secrets and inherited spiritual powers. I can’t say I like him nor can I hate him; He’s good and I’m staying neutral about that.

The story is quite simple and ordinary. With the insertion of other tribal myths, this act had added more colours to the story. I like it done that way.

This book might be already the third book in the series but it can definitely be read as standalone. I recommend it to all romance and fantasy readers out there, especially those who fancy merfolks.

Lily is the beautiful mermaid with a siren's voice which men are unable to resist. This has somewhat ruined her reputation in Bayou La Syrina. She appears to take it all in her strides even though she can't find the one thing she craves. Love!

Nash, a Choctaw Native American is a professional photographer who has an afinity with animals. He is Lily's long lost childhood friend and is on an assignment in this small town. When they bump into each other, he appears to be immuned to Lily's voice to her surprise. Nash tries to keep their friendship platonic due to some of the things which have happened to him in the past. Lily is worried that her reputation will act as a deterrent but it becomes apparent that there is more to their friendship when the chemistry between them becomes quite palpable. Then danger comes lurking around the corner.

It's nice to see Shelly, Jet and the rest of the family which makes the story even more credible.

Mrs Herbert adds another layer of supernatural with Nash having his own supernatural abilities which he is very reluctant to acknowledge.

I have loved all three books in this trilogy but one has to have a favourite right? This one is my favourite and I loved everything about this book.

I would recommend this trilogy to anybody who likes the supernatural with mystery, suspense and easy to read romance

I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is the final book in the Dark Seas Trilogy and I need to apologize for a small error. In my previous reviews on Amazon (For Siren's Secret and Siren's Treasure I called this book Siren's Song. I blame it on lack of sleep and wanting to get the review up quickly. Sorry!!!)

Lily Bosarge is a true Siren. She is the darling of the Mer people and beloved by her family. In the human world she's never been turned down and can get any man she sets her eyes....er voice on. While it sounds amazing, it's actually a pretty lonely life. Lily is labeled as the town tramp because of her popularity and her mother, sister, and cousin are her only friends.
Nash Bowman comes along and changes her world entirely. Not only is he immune to her Siren Call, but he seems disinterested in her. Rising to the challenge, Lily pursues him with all the charm in her vast feminine arsenal. Soon she begins to actually fall in love with her long lost friend.
That's too tidy though, here to complicate matters are a murderous stalker and Nash trying to come to terms with his own magic.
I loved that Herbert incorporated Native American lore with Mermaid lore. It's an unexpected combination and it worked very well! (Also I've discovered I haven't read enough Paranormal Books that feature Native American mythology...so that's my next task) Great Job Debbie! I was so happy with this series! Once again you've made me fangirl and you're now on my automatic one click list of authors!
