The Vijayanagara Empire was an empire originated South India, in the Deccan Plateau region in the early fourteenth century. It was established in 1336 by Harihara Raya I and his brother Bukka Raya I of Sangama Dynasty.The empire rose to prominence as a culmination of attempts by the southern powers to ward off Islamic invasions by the end of the thirteenth century.The region of Rayalaseema in the present day Andhra Pradesh got its name from the rulers of this dynasty.

The ancient town of Hampi is located in the Indian state of Karnataka, on the banks of the Tungabhadra River near the modern town of Hospet. It was once the magnificent capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, but now much of it lies in ruins which can be seen when visiting Hampi. Today, they form a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
