Typical bloody Yank. All talk.
~ Charlie Cutter.

Charlie Cutter is an English fortune hunter who serves as the tritagonist of the 2011 video game Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.

Initially believed to be an antagonist, he is soon revealed to be an ally and associate of Nathan Drake, Victor Sullivan and Chloe Frazer. Charlie aids the trio on finding Lawrence of Arabia and Francis Drake's trail on the city of Ubar, but is injured when fighting against Katherine Marlowe and Talbot.

Charlie Cutter is voiced by Graham McTavish, who has previously voiced Uncharted 2: Among Thieves main antagonist Zoran Lazarević, voiced Dante Alighieri in Dante's Inferno and Dante's Inferno: An Animated Epic, and portrayed Dwalin from The Hobbit trilogy and Atlan in Aquaman.

Biography[]

Not much is known about Charlie before Uncharted 3. He is an old friend of Nathan and Sullivan, as well as Chloe for a time. It is also implied that he has met Elena Fisher, but apparently not as an ally. She only seems to recognize the name and asks whether he is dead when Sully says he 'was' working with them. Besides that, little is known.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception[]

Charlie is a cockney friend of Nate, Sully and Chloe and is also shown to know Elena to some extent when she inquires about his well-being. It is apparent that he suffers from severe claustrophobia, requiring much prompting to squeeze through tight spaces. He is first introduced as one of Marlowe's henchmen, although it is soon apparent that he is an inside man. He helps Drake, Frazer, and Sullivan in the first part of the game with finding the clues to the location of Ubar, the Atlantis of the Sands. He is injured when jumping off a tower in Syria and tells Drake to go on and stop Marlowe out of revenge. Despite looking like a blunt, common thug, he appears to be well-educated, quoting John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men and correcting Sullivan's mistake when quoting Macbeth.

Personality[]

Charlie starts in the third game as a hired, if unstable, goon of Marlowe's who seemingly kills the heroes. However it turns out it was ploy he was pulling with Nate and Sullivan to get Marlowe to lead them back to her base and get what they need. In reality, he's a close ally and friend of the two. Despite his rough exterior (at first he appears to just be a guy Nate knows who's good with his hands in tight spots and not someone who would help with following the trail), he's actually about as learned as Nate is on subjects of esoteric and hidden histories and probably better with pop culture.

Trivia[]

  • He appears to suffer from claustrophobia, as he often is scared when squeezing through tight spaces in the game.
  • In the multiplayer beta he was on the villains side to hide his false antagonist role.
  • He and Nate are the only characters who have a notebook they keep clues in.
