Lucas is the main protagonist of Mother 3. He is the son of Flint and the late Hinawa, the younger twin brother of Claus, as well as one of Alec's grandsons.
He was living a peaceful life in Tazmilly Village with his family until the Pigmask Army attacks the village. Worse, his mother gets killed, causing his brother to go missing. In Chapter 4, Lucas sets out on an adventure to save the world from the Pigmask Army.
He is voiced by Lani Minella in the Super Smash Bros. series, who also voiced Pit from the Kid Icarus series and Sonic Boom from the Skylanders series.
Appearance[]
Lucas has blonde hair, yellow eyebrows and black eyes (blue in Super Smash Bros. Brawl). He wears a red and yellow striped t-shirt, blue pants and white socks with orange-yellow shoes.
Personality[]
Lucas is notable for his kindness. He loves his family and friends dearly.
In Chapter 1, he was afraid, timid, and weak, due to his mother's death and brother's disappearance. He also often cried about Hinawa's death whenever he visited her grave. However, as the story continues, he determines to be brave and get stronger. His courageous actions can be seen in Chapter 3, where he, with the help of the Dragos, saved Salsa, Kumatora, and Wess from the Pigmask Army.
Starting from Chapter 4, after he grows up, Lucas is shown to be much braver than how he was when he was younger, though he also became almost expressionless.
Despite the soft feelings that define him, Lucas is capable of great bravery when pushed and facing his enemies, especially his arch-nemesis, Porky Minch.
Biography[]
Mother 3[]
Lucas was staying with his grandfather, mother and brother in an old cottage. He and Claus played with the Dragos and ate some of their favorite food, omelets. They prepared to visit Flint in their house. However, along their way home, a Mecha Drago killed Hinawa and prompted Claus to go missing while Lucas cried at his mother's death.
Lucas returns in Chapter 3, where he and the Dragos save Kumatora, Wess, and Salsa.
In Chapter 4, he is a 12-year-old boy who sets out to save the world with his pet dog Boney and his companions Kumatora and Duster by pulling seven Needles that keep a cataclysmic Dark Dragon dormant. He successfully pulls three of the Needles, though the Masked Man — who was actually Claus, who himself was Porky's brainwashed proxy — guarded the final one after also pulling three Needles each.
Lucas was unable to attack his brother before Hinawa's ghost appeared and begged Claus to stop beating his brother. Claus listened to his mother's pleas and unmasked himself before committing suicide with a lightning attack. After Claus breathed his last, Lucas pulled the final Needle, passing his desire to protect all life to the Dark Dragon and saving the world from destruction.

Subspace Emissary[]
Lucas appears as one of the heroes in Super Smash Bros. Brawl 's adventure mode, the Subspace Emissary. He initially appears as a weak, shy and timid person, almost identical to how he appeared in Mother 3. Lucas first appears in the Ruined Zoo, where he gets attacked by Primids and the Porky Statue. As he was running away from the Porky Statue, he gets his leg stuck on a branch, but just before he was about to get crushed by the Statue, Ness comes and saves him.
They proceed to fight Porky after Ness exposes the Porky Statue as Porky. After Porky's defeat, Wario appears and attempts to turn Lucas and Ness into trophies with his dark cannon. He targets Ness first, but Ness avoids the shot. Wario then shoots more shots at Ness, but once again, Ness managed to avoid all of them. Knowing Ness was too hard to get, he attempts to turn Lucas into a trophy instead. Ness pushes Lucas out of the way to save him, but gets turned into a trophy. Lucas, scared, runs away and meets the Pokémon Trainer. He decides to join the Trainer as he cannot forgive Wario for what he did to Ness.
Lucas and the Pokémon Trainer explored outside the Ruins. They see a Charizard flying by, and the Pokémon Trainer decides to capture it. However, before Lucas and the Trainer could go inside the Ruins, they are ambushed by Wario. They defeat him, but Lucas becomes disappointed that Wario does not have Ness with him anymore. The Trainer cheers Lucas up, and they continue their journey inside the Ruins. After capturing Charizard and an Ivysaur inside the Ruins, Lucas and the Pokémon Trainer reach The Ruined Hall, where they are attacked by Galleom. After defeating him, Galleom takes them and starts flying into the air, with a Subspace Bomb in his head about to go off. Lucas uses PK Thunder to free himself and the Pokémon Trainer, and before they could crash to the ground, Meta Knight saves them.
At The Glacial Peak, Meta Knight leaves them, but they are then joined by the Ice Climbers as the Subspace Army is sent out to attack them. Mario, Link, Yoshi, Kirby, and Pit then appear and defeated the enemies. Soon, the other remaining heroes show up and they enter Subspace together. However, Lucas and the others were defeated by Tabuu. The player can save Lucas, or can be left behind as a trophy. However, the player will not be able to use him in the Great Maze if the player doesn't save him.

Trivia[]
- Lucas's name is an anagram of Claus' name.
- Lucas's age was never officially confirmed but is often assumed by fans to around 11-13 years old. In Earthbound 64, Lucas and Claus were supposed to be only 7 years old pre-timeskip and 17 post-timeskip. Throughout development of Mother 3 for the GBA, the timeskip was changed to be 3 years.
- However, Fuel's age has been officially confirmed to be 8 years old pre-timeskip. Assuming that Lucas and Claus are the same age as Fuel, then they would all be 11 years old post-timeskip.
- In the development of Super Smash Bros. Melee, Masahiro Sakurai suggested the idea of replacing Ness with Lucas. However, as Mother 3 was cancelled on the Nintendo 64, it was decided to keep Ness in the game instead.
- Had the game not been cancelled on the Nintendo 64, Ness would have been the only character of the "Original 12" to be cut.
- Unlike Ness and Ninten, Lucas uses a stick as his weapon instead of a baseball bat.
- There is a similar looking character in Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, a popular Cartoon Network animated TV series from the episode "Neighbor Pains" named Young Man Rivers who looks a lot like him but with orange and brown stripes instead of red and yellow stripes and brown cowboy boots and curls in his blonde hair.
