I’ve listed you some safety tips at my feed 🫶 . 👉 my tips for making this ceramic cake stand: 👉Roll out your slab to 5mm (stand: 7mm) 👉Don’t be afraid to add something in between. Just smooth it out later. 😬 👉 To be honest, I just use a salad bowl from my kitchen as a mould. 🪴 👉And this is my best trick: I always place a higher container under the bowl so that it turns like a potter’s wheel. Because its very easy to warp, crack, annoying to glaze and takes a lot of kiln space. Buuut... its very satisfying to eat using your own plates, so here we are. Making side plates for you! Here are a few extra tips: • definatelly use bats! It will be impossible to remove it from the wheel without distorting, if you dont. • use a sponge on your hand to keep the clay wet all the time. • careful with the thickness, plates are very easy to go too thin, if you dont have enough clay. • dry it slowly and try to have it upside down after trimming, so its an even dry. Have fun. ❤️🪴" Pottery Wheel Plates, Charcuterie Board Pottery, Pottery Turning, Potters Shed, Thing To Make, Pottery Classes, Least Favorite, Pottery Wheel, Side Plates

Glaze Me Pretty | Handmade Ceramics on Instagram: "One of the few things that fit in the 90 seconds reel limit without needing to speed it up or cut. I use 200 grams of clay. I like to use a wooden tool with a flat tip to raise the side, mainly to save my fingertips and nails from the friction against the wheel. I let them dry and wire off as soon as the clay is no longer sticky. #potterywheel #wheelthrowing #potterystudio #potterytechniques #potterytips #handmadeceramics #contemporaryceramics #makerlife" How To Center Clay On Wheel, Ceramic Videos, Clay Wheel, Wheel Throwing, Hand Building, Pottery Techniques, Need For Speed, Pottery Wheel, Contemporary Ceramics

Going to the wheel without a plan is a recipe for ineffective throwing, set yourself up for success with these tips I’ve learned after throwing 500 mugs in 5 days earlier this year.

1. Proper Clay Preparation: We start with Kota Porcelain and Sheltowee Stoneware—clays that forgive and delight. Pre-wedged to precise waits to avoid pauses. Thanks to @kentuckymudworks for the top-notch material! It’s lovely to use. Consistent clay, with a pre-weighed amount, and a form in mind are key.

2. Efficient Tool Prep: Every tool on our wheel has a purpose. Keeping it simple to fend off decision fatigue during long hours at the wheel. Do you really need 2 needle tools, and 3 stamps, two silicone, and wood ribs? Maybe- but Probabl Decision Fatigue, Set Yourself Up For Success, Keeping It Simple, Long Hours, Year 1, Clay Flowers, Do You Really, Stoneware Clay, Keep It Simple
