Ginzan Onsen in Yamagata Prefecture is one of the most well-known onsen towns in Japan. It's famed for some of the best picturesque hot spring baths and traditional inns in the country. 📍 It's also conveniently connected to Tokyo too! From Tokyo, take the JR Yamagata Shinkansen to Oishida Station (which takes around 3.5 hours, costing 12,000 yen - approx $154 AUD). When Alex and I first traveled to Japan for our honeymoon in 2018, I was determined to find an open-air onsen (rotemburo), that allowed tattoos and mixed-gender bathing.
