Japan Series
My son teaches English to school kids in and around Maniwa-shi Japan, in the southwest mountains. These paintings, both plein air (on location) and studio are a result of my visits there.

“Kako-no-ike Pond, Korakuen”, 24×12, oil on canvas. One of the Three Great Gardens of Japan is called Korakuen (KÅraku-en). Located in Okayama, Japan, it was built in 1700 by Ikeda Tsunamasa. This is a painting of Kako-no-ike, one of the ponds in the garden, and the eighth in my Japan studio series, and the second of the garden

"Kanba Creek", 16x20, oil on board. Studio painting. This creek is just below Kanba-no-taki waterfall near Katsuyama, Japan which I painted in the first of this series. There was still a lot of fall color around which complimented nicely with the moss covered rocks. Although this creek could be almost anywhere, I wanted an indication of the country it is in, so added a small Japanese stone lantern in the background. The stone lanterns are found everywhere in Japan, just not right there.
