Each day we have both a morning chore and an afternoon activity. Wednesday, though, is just Family Day. I mentioned that I had oral surgery last week and, honestly, still feel a little out of sorts. Since I haven't felt much like writing, I've been using this week to share our rhythm of afternoon activities. Every day following Quiet Time, Naiya and I (and daddy when he's home) take part in some recurring pastime. I usually call this "craft time" because many of our…

When did life just get so complicated?! With Ivan's new (longer) work schedule and the start of the school year, our days have just become so crazed. Now, please don't get me wrong. I've come to love Matteo's school and his lovely, caring Kindergarten teacher. This is great for younger children as a non abstract way to learn the days of the week. Steiner fathered some of these ideas and others were taken from religious traditions. How to use this: You can set the table with colored napkins for the day. Dress in that color. Eat the grain of the day in a meal. I found this fun and helpful when my children were small.

The Waldorf model for young children designates a specific day of the week for different projects. I didn't want quite that level of structure. For us, I find that filling in the basics (meals, quiet time, nightly rituals, weekly gatherings and classes) then filling…
