There was a wonderful exhibit of Sue Garman quilts in Houston. She was such a great talent and passed away far too young after battling cancer. I’ve made two of her patterns: Mama Said and my Monster Quilt. I am planning to make her Omigosh pattern someday! The exhibit was huge because she was a prolific quilter, but here are photos of a few! The Barrel Racer Washington Medallion A Baltimore Album style quilt (I didn’t get the name of this one!) Afternoon Delight (Detail above) This is an…

Happy New Year, everyone!! 2013 vanished before our eyes and now another year is standing in the wings, waiting for us to fill it with energy, enthusiasm, and memory-making events. So how did you end 2013? Did you accomplish your goals? Did you do all you could to make each day wonderful? I hope so. December, for me, was filled with tons of family activities; I hardly had time to quilt. I did manage to take my 6-year old grand daughter aside to finish a quilt she started. She chose the…

I am getting ready to attend a quilting retreat at The Country Sampler, in Spring Green. Wisconsin. I attended last year with a group of California friends, and we had such a good time, we decided to go again. For this retreat we were given an assignment for a block exchange. So I've had the medal to the metal....:-) On my way to this retreat, I will spend 2 days teaching at Grand Country Quilters in California. I look forward to this, because classes held at this shop in San Marcos, is an…

With Halloween time comes the time for the Houston International Quilt Festival, here in downtown Houston at the George R. Brown Convention Center. My quilter friends and I (and Mom before me) usually get hotel rooms and stay downtown for several nights so that we can really take time to explore the booths and take in all of the beautiful quilts. With the show being so scaled back this year, we scaled back also and just drove up for the day. I'm not complaining! I'm happy the show was…

I truly find it hard to believe that it's already MAY! I guess the saying is true that time flies when you're having fun! This month I want to share a series, or actually just a bunch, of simple but beautiful quilts that I finished recently. Some are community service, some for baby showers, and one pair was for my kiddo. Then, I have a special surprise at the end! Here we go... My son, who will be a whopping 15 years old next month, has two twin beds in his room. For several years now…

Whew! It’s been a busy couple of months! Festival, starting a new business, quilting, and new threads and backings! I’ll try not to overload you with too many pictures or words, and keep things short-ish and sweet. First, in my last post, I toward the end, I posted a picture of my grey and white prairie star block for Corey Pearson. I did end up taking it apart and reworking it so that the points match up better. And, it’s still 6” square. Imagine that! My friend, Cynthia, also finished her…

At this year's annual International Quilting Association's show, there was a most extraordinary exhibit. The French Guild France Patchwork exhibited thirty quilts from their last bi-annual contest, "Quilts de Legende" or Legendary Quilts. The quilts are all reproductions of antique quilts from Europe, Australia, and the United States. The rules for entry state that every quilt must be an exact reproduction of an antique quilt, using fabric as true to the original as possible, and they must…
