In the Brythunian city-state of Berthalia, the winding narrow streets were always crowded with merchants and markegoers threading their way to the well-stocked bazaars. After the queen was kidnapped by an evil wizard, the king of Berthalia issued a reward for anyone who would rescue her. Many attempted to storm the mountain home of the wizard, only to find a sudden death, until Conan, eager to earn the king's reward, came to the cave and discovered that the evil wizard was actually the childhood secret lover of Queen Gywnella. The Cimmerian then returned to the king's palace, admitting defeat and persuading him to cease any further rescue attempt.[1]
