While he was painting a female figure on the side of an airplane, Dick Ayers thought that once the war was over he would no longer be abused by guys like Stan Lee, but Lee replied that after the war he would write stories about the Howling Commandos and asked Ayers would have liked to draw them, to Ayers' undisguised disappointment.[1]
