Spider-Man bonded to the Venom symbiote and he and Gwen Stacy got married. At an unknown point the world began to experience "The Unraveling", objects and people began to come apart. The people still lived while their minds and bodies began to crumble, repeating actions. Spider-Man and certain other heroes were not as affected and in order to fix New York City he would travel around the city using his webbing to bind everyone and everything he could back together. However, after 24 hours, the webbing dissolved and he would be forced to do it again.

On his wedding anniversary with Gwen, while fighting against a crumbling Doc Ock, Reed Richards summoned him to the Baxter Building. Reed had developed a webbing replacement from the elastic structure of his own body and sent Spider-Man to retrieve the Venom symbiote which could act as a similar compound to be used on the whole city.

Arriving in the sewers of New York, Spider-Man was ambushed by Venom, he tried to take the symbiote only to discover that Eddie was also a victim of the Unraveling. Venom explained that he tried to keep Eddie alive but his mind collapsed. Peter attempted to bond with the Symbiote, but Venom refused to leave Eddie's body. Peter realized he was late home and rushed back to find Gwen having fully succumbed to the Unraveling

Already broken, Peter returned to Mister Fantatic and used Reed's body to develop more of the webbing replacement and spread the still alive Reed all over the city. ^[1]
