History

In his public life, Sinclair gives to charity via his Abbott Foundation. During social gatherings he appeared alongside his wife Greta.[1] As Spymaster, he ordered his predecessor murdered while in prison. He sent the Ghost after Iron Man and attempted to acquire the Living Laser.

Abbott was later enlisted by agents of Mandarin to attack Stark's closest allies. He personally attacked Happy Hogan,[2] leaving him in a comatose state that led to his death.[3]

When Tony Stark revamped his company into Stark Resilient, Justine Hammer hired Spymaster to sabotage him.[4] To this end, Abbott assumeed the identity of Leonard Pimacher. During this time, he developed a relationship with Tim Cababa, and came to love him truthfully. Spymaster saw himself forced to attack Tim when ordered to blow his cover, but avoided killing him.[5] He subsequently attacked Stark Resilient's HQ, and fought against Stark's head of security Bethany Cabe,[6] before being shot down by Bambi Arbogast.[7] Abbott was hospitalized and had surgery. When he regained consciousness, Spymaster attacked one of the officers guarding his bed, performing a suicide by cop.[8]

Abbott appeared to have survived his suicide attempt, and resumed his criminal activities. He came into conflict with Iron Man again after being hired by Baintronics to steal a hard drive containing a back-up of Stark's memories. Spymaster was initially successful and escaped aboard the Manticore, but Iron Man and Captain Marvel gave chase and eventually retrieved the hard drive.[9]

After establishing an international black market network called Source Control,[10] Spymaster became the premier seller of high-grade technology, including many world-threatening weapons. Iron Man eventually became aware of Source Control's existence and infiltrated its main hub in Macau, China,[11] where he used Force as a frontman to buy up Source Control's entire catalog, so that he could dismantle it afterward. A few weeks into Stark's venture, Spymaster found out about his involvement and abducted Force, later persuading him to join his ranks. When Tony decided to drop the cover to personally buy the Mandarin's rings, Spymaster ambushed him alongside Force. Abbott also brought along the Cobalt Man, who had already bought the rings.[10] However, the Cobalt Man was in reality Tony's protégée Riri Williams undercover, and she used one of the rings to banish Spymaster and Force to the Darkforce Dimension.[12]

Notes

  • Sinclair is apparently bisexual. He was in a relationship with his wife Greta,[1] and later dated Tim Cababa, whom he genuinely loved despite his cover.[5]
  • The identity of the Spymaster that appears as the leader of Source Control in Iron Man (Vol. 6) #23 is never provided. The fact that Iron Man (Vol. 6) featured Donnie Gill wearing the Blizzard costume previously unique to his late predecessor Gregor Shapanka will be used as a precedent to assume that this Spymaster is Abbott despite wearing a costume that belonged to his predecessors, since he was the only Spymaster confirmed alive at the time.
