Riviera Psychiatric Institute is a psychiatric institution.
History[]
Benjamin Poindexter was sent to Riviera after he killed his baseball coach, Bradley, who had decided not to allow Poindexter to pitch a perfect game. Poindexter was assigned to go to therapy with Dr. Eileen Mercer and told Mercer that he didn't feel bad for killing Bradley because of the way his coach treated him. Poindexter confessed that he killed Bradley on purpose and was surprised when Mercer continued to be compassionate toward him and became a maternal figure for Poindexter.
Years later, Mercer was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Choosing not to work at Riviera, she had a party to say goodbye, and her final session with Poindexter, who expressed anger with her for leaving. Mercer gave Poindexter tape recordings of all of their sessions together to stop him from regressing, but when she recommended a new therapist, Poindexter tried to kill Mercer out of anger. Mercer talked him down and stopped working at Riviera. Poindexter was later released.[1]
