What If... Strange Supreme Intervened? is the ninth and final episode of the second season of What If...?.
Synopsis[]
Captain Carter discovers the greatest threat to all existence may be closer to her than she realizes.
Plot[]
In 1602, Doctor Strange talks with Captain Carter as they catch up. Meanwhile, The Watcher narrates Carter's story. Carter then asks Strange if she could get help going back to her home. Strange agrees, to help and brings Carter to the Sanctum Infinitum where he has been capturing universe killers in order to save the Multiverse from their destruction.
Strange explains that he will take Carter back to her universe, but he needs help first. He brings Carter to the Rotunda of Gateways and explains that one of the prisoners, Kahhori, had escaped and is in another universe. Carter enters this universe to capture Kahhori and has a talk with The Watcher, who warns her of what will happen next. Carter has a brief fight with Kahhori, but stops when Kahhori says that Strange is lying. Before Carter could react, Strange summons them into the sanctum.
Strange then tries to capture Kahhori, who explains further that Strange is feeding good and bad beings to the Forge in order to recreate his universe. Hearing this, Carter intervenes and starts fighting Strange. Seeing how powerful he is, Carter throws her shield, destroying all of the orbs that are imprisoning the prisoners. This causes a riot that Strange has to stop.
Many of the prisoners break free such as Hela, Wanda Maximoff, Thanos, Erik Killmonger, Xu Wenwu and more start fighting each other. Carter and Kahhori try to shut down the Forge but are stopped by Killmonger, who has the Infinity Armor. Kahhori disposes of Killmonger, leaving Carter to occupy the Infinity Stones.
They then go to the Forge where they fight Strange using their powers from the Infinity Stone. Notably, Carter uses the Time Stone when Strange summons portals to send the prisoners into the Forge. Not wanting to die, all of the prisoners throw Kahhori and Hela their weapons to use against Strange. Kahhori is given MjĂžlnir and the Ten Rings while Carter has Hela's Crown, Gungnir and Hulk's Sword and Axe.
The duo fight Strange some more as Kahhori manages to send everyone back to their universes. Carter then is given all of the stones and grasps them in her hands. With the power of all the stones, she punches Strange, causing his demons to expel out of him. As Strange's grief is too strong, he sucks the demons back in and charges at Carter. The two start falling into the Forge, but Carter escapes, just leaving Strange to die by falling into the Forge. Although the demon tries to attack Carter as he falls, Strange partially emerges to restrain his grief and save his old friend's life.
Carter wakes up in the Nexus of All Realities and is told by The Watcher that Kahhori is safe in her universe. The Watcher then shows Carter a park where Christine Palmer is sitting. He explains that Strange's death caused a new world to be created but with him non-existent. He then asks if Carter wants to go home, which she does, but not before seeing the Multiverse herself.

Trivia[]
- When asked about the stakes of the finale not revolving around the potential end of the world, A.C. Bradley said that they chose to use it as an escape from increasing tensions in the real world which were ongoing when the season was written.[1]
Behind the Scenes[]
- The final shot of the episode in which The Watcher and Captain Carter look at the tree-like Multiverse was initially going to be a simple look at the without the tree design. However, when the first season of Loki ended with a similar shot, they were unable to use it. However, during the production of the second season of Loki, the What If...? creatives were approached and told about its finale ending with the tree design, asking them to use that design.[2]
