Irene Sale (8 November 1938 – 17 August 2008; age 69) was an actress and stuntwoman who played Louise in the Star Trek: The Original Series first season episode "Miri". She also worked as stunt double for Barbara Baldavin on the episode "Shore Leave".
Prior to her acting career, Sale worked as an airline stewardess. [1] She began her acting career in the early '60s with a small uncredited roles in the film Palm Springs Weekend (1963, with Jerry Catron, Mark Dempsey, Nick Dimitri, Lou Elias, Shep Houghton, Oliver McGowan, Bill Mumy, and Judi Sherven) and The Twilight Zone episode "The Old Man in the Cave" (1963, with John Anderson), followed by a role in the film A Swingin' Summer (1965, with William Wellman Jr.), where she was credited as Irene Sales. In addition, she worked as stand-in on the comedy The Cool Ones (1967, with Tom Anfinsen, Benjie Bancroft, Bill Blackburn, Teri Garr, Robert Hitchcock, Rex Holman, John Hugh McKnight, Angelique Pettyjohn, and fellow stand-in Alan Marston). During the same timeframe Sale danced and played bit parts in six Elvis Presley films along with Suzanne Lodge. [2]
Sale was married to prop master and production manager Tony Wade between 8 April 1967 and July 1973. The couple has two children, one of them is daughter Kelly Wade and the other one is son Jon Anthony Wade. Following their divorce, Sale started to work as background actress within the Screen Extras Guild again and appeared in films and series such as the television comedy Three for Two (1975, with Lucille Ball), the comedy Alex & the Gypsy (1976, with Geneviève Bujold, Robert Miano, Clyde Kusatsu, and Carol Daniels), and the comedy Beaches (1988, with James Read and Bruce Dobos).
During the mid-'80s, Sale played numerous "silent bits" on the show Designing Women (1986), where she also worked as the stand-in for Delta Burke, until Burke was fired in 1991, where after, Sale worked as a stand-in for the show's replacement cast member, Jan Hooks. [3]
Irene Sale Wade passed away due to a heart attack in her backyard of her home on 17 August 2008. [4]
