"At twenty-two hundred hours and twelve minutes, a distress signal was received at Starbase 157. The Lalo reported contact with an alien vessel described as cube-shaped..."
– J.P. Hanson, 2366 ("The Best of Both Worlds")
"Do you know where your old man was on that day? He was on that Borg cube, setting the world on fire!"
– Liam Shaw, 2401 ("No Win Scenario")

Locutus' cube was a Borg cube whose crew kidnapped and assimilated Jean-Luc Picard, who as a Borg drone designated "Locutus", led this ship against the Federation at Wolf 359.

In 2366, this cube (possibly the same one encountered by the USS Enterprise-D at System J-25, since the dimensions were identical) invaded Federation space, destroying the New Providence colony and the USS Lalo. After encountering the Enterprise-D and taking Picard, this Borg cube then engaged Starfleet at the Battle of Wolf 359, which caused the destruction of 39 starships with a loss of life approaching 11,000. Several other Starfleet members were assimilated during the battle. (TNG: "The Best of Both Worlds"; DS9: "Emissary")

It is never explained how assimilated Starfleet personnel from the battle were later found in the Delta Quadrant, given that the original cube was completely destroyed. Several possibilities exist, such as another Borg vessel taking captives back into Borg space, or some type of long range transporter technology as seen in PIC: "The Impossible Box".

The Borg cube encountered at Wolf 359 was later destroyed after Lieutenant Commander Data fed a regeneration order into the cube, causing it to build up an overload and self-destruct. (TNG: "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II")

Several years later, Picard had a nightmare where he was once again aboard this ship, this time, recalling his encounter with the Borg Queen. (Star Trek: First Contact)

Apocrypha[]

According to the role playing game Star Trek Adventures - Core Rulebook, this cube was called Cube 632.

In the Doctor Who crossover comic Assimilation², the Eleventh Doctor and his companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams travel back in time to the Battle of Wolf 359 to recover a copy of the Borg central archive from Locutus' cube during the battle after the present version is deleted by the Doctor's enemies, the Cybermen. On board the cube, they encounter Captain Picard assimilated into the Borg Collective as Locutus, but he ignores them as they proceed through the Borg ship to a computer terminal where the Doctor copies the executive libraries, as Locutus, like all Borg, doesn't register them as a threat so long as they do nothing threatening to the ship.
