Nevin Riordan was a male Human serving as an officer in the Federation Starfleet in the 24th century.

Biography[]

While at Starfleet Academy, he bunked with future crewmate Wilson Englehorn. (TNG novel: Takedown)

In the year 2381, Riordan had attained the rank of Ensign, serving aboard the USS Aventine as a computer specialist.

During the Aventine's investigation of the crash site of the United Earth Starfleet NX-class starship Columbia, Riordan found schematics for the computer core from Earth archives, allowing the two ships to interact, an action that chief engineer Mikaela Leishman recommended to Captain Ezri Dax for commendation. After they had recovered the entirety of the vessel's computer logs, he noted an eight month gap in records, and determined it was not due to damage, malfunction, or erasure. (ST - Destiny novel: Gods of Night)

By 2385, Riordan was still serving as an Ensign in Aventine's engineering department when he participated in a friendly rivalry with the ship's security department, reprogramming all the replicators on deck 7. Because Ensign Altoss had to be admitted to sickbay as a result of eating something she was allergic to, Riordan was subsequently confined to the brig by first officer Commander Sam Bowers and later released by Dax, who tasked him with checking the ship's running lights.

He was still in the process of doing that when the ship was commandeered by Rear Admiral William T. Riker, then under the control of the Cytherians. He abandoned his work, leaving the port registry lights off the main grid and out of Riker's control. This later allowed Riordan and Dax to reconfigure those lights to send a message to the USS Enterprise-E's XO, Commander Worf in an effort to disable Aventine and wrest control of the ship back from Riker. (TNG novel: Takedown)

Personality[]

Riordan was noted for refusing to show proper respect to superior officers on a number of occasions, such as chastizing Captain Dax for interrupting him during a briefing, despite having been given a warning glance by Commander Bowers, and insulting Lieutenant Englehorn in the presence of Dax duriung his confinment. This behaviour contributed, in part, to his not having received a promotion in five years. (TNG novel: Takedown)
