The Anchor Plant - Colletia paradoxa - is a rare oddity from South America with a truly unique look. Also called the "Jet Plane Plant", this is a leaf-less shrub with flattened, blue-green stems that function as leaves. The stems are arranged in opposite pairs, like boat anchors or airplane propellers. It's hard to capture the geometric beauty of this plant in photographs, but it always gets compliments!

Yucca filamentosa is an evergreen, native perennial shrub that is found throughout Georgia. Spiky leaves give rise to the common name, Adam's needle. This member of the Agavaceae family grows all over the Eastern US and west to Texas. Several other species of Yucca are native to Georgia as well. Creamy bell-like, white flowers bloom on a large stalk in early summer.

Purple thistle is one of the few plants that stays green throughout the winter. Without flowers, it’s low to the ground, so it provides a nice pop of color against the brown grasses. Come spring it will produce gorgeous spiky pink or purple flowers. I don’t want to step on one, but otherwise they’re pretty cool little plants.
