Melissa Koehl on Instagram: "With hypermobility, there’s a LOT of joints in the spine to control and it’s no wonder our muscles can sometimes struggle to keep up with the demands.  There’s MANY, MANY ways we can address low back pain and to be fair, blaming it on the QL muscle is a gross oversimplification (sorry!), but it is easy to show and describe briefly in this reel.  When we use movement to help pain, it’s  about providing signals of SAFETY to the brain.   When your brain understand that the painful area of your body is in fact supported by your muscles, has blood flow, and the fascia and other tissues near by can move well, it with down regulate the tension in the QL (aka tells it to chill)  and will automatically get better activation of our stabilizing muscles.
