Mairzee Almas is an episode director for ABC's Once Upon a Time.

Biography

Mairzee Almas lives in Vancouver, Canada. Her early training included graduating from the Vancouver Film School Foundation Film Program in 1993 and a two-year actor training program at The F.T.S. Performing Arts Conservatory in Vancouver in 1990.[1]

Almaas spent the majority of her early career working as a second unit or assistant director. Her first job was as second assistant director for the straight-to-video 1996 action-drama Bounty Hunters. Throughout most of the nineties and early two thousands, she worked on a series of slightly obscure movies and TV shows; one major exception was the 2000 action film Reindeer Games starring Ben Affleck, Gary Sinise and Charlize Theron, on which Almaas served as first assistant director. She also worked on the Canadian coroner crime-mystery series Da Vinci's Inquest for five years, serving as first assistant director of 31 episodes.[2]

In 2003, Almaas joined the crew of the American television series Smallville, where she served as first assistant director on 62 episodes, before she went on to direct nine episodes herself.[2] She earned a "Best Direction" nomination from the Directors Guild of Canada for the Smallville episode entitled "Identity".[1] In 2011, she joined the crew of the fantasy-drama The Secret Circle, where she once again served as first assistant director. Since then, she has served as director of episodes of a string of well-known TV shows, including Alphas, the American version of Being Human, iZombie, The 100, Dark Matter, Lucifer and 12 Monkeys.[2]
