Olivia Wilde Says Charli xcx's Audition for Their Upcoming Film I Want Your Sex Was 'Incredible'

Olivia Wilde and Charli xcx will soon grace the big screen together — and Wilde, 40, is excited to meet the "Apple" singer.

At a Tribeca Chanel Women's Filmmaker luncheon in New York City on Tuesday, Sept. 17, Wilde praised Charli xcx, 32, while speaking with Variety about the pair's upcoming movie, I Want Your Sex.

“We’ve texted and I love her,” Wilde said. "She’s so inspiring. I am all for this explosion of female power in music. It is just such a thrill to be an audience member and I can’t wait to go see her show.”

Though the movie would mark the singer's feature film debut, Wilde said she would only offer her costar advice on acting if the pop star wants it. But the Don't Worry Darling star doesn't feel it will be necessary.

“I mean, if she asks, of course,” she told the outlet. “She’s been [performing] since she was a young teenager, I believe. She’s spent a lot more time on stage than I have and I’m sure she knows exactly what to do. Her audition was also incredible. So good. I wrote to her, ‘Of course, you’re also a brilliant actress.' ”

Charli xcx - whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison — was first announced as Wilde and Cooper Hoffman's costar in I Want Your Sex, from writer-director Gregg Araki, on Aug. 30, multiple outlets reported. The thriller will mark an apparent turn toward film acting for the singer, who is also attached to star in two other feature film projects in various stages of production, according to her IMDb page.

Outside of Charli xcx's work in music, she appeared as herself in a 2022 episode of Gossip Girl and lent her voice to the 2019 animated movie UglyDolls and 2016's The Angry Birds Movie.

According to Black Bear Pictures, I Want Your Sex stars Wilde as a renowned artist named Erika Tracy, who hires Elliot (Hoffman, 21).

Per the official synopsis, "his fantasies come true as Erika taps him to become her sexual muse. But Elliot soon finds himself out of his depth as Erika takes him on a journey more profound than he ever could have imagined, into a world of sex, obsession, power, betrayal and murder."

Variety reported that "details about Charli [xcx]’s role remain under wraps."

The movie will mark Wilde's first appearances on the big screen since 2022, when she appeared in the movie Babylon and in Don't Worry Darling, the latter of which she also directed. Wilde has not released a movie as a filmmaker since Don't Worry Darling, though her IMDb profile indicates she has multiple projects in the works.
