Ultimate Mystery is the twelfth episode of Power Rangers Dino Fury season 2, and the thirty-fourth episode overall. This episode features the reappearance of General Shaw and serves as a prelude to a three-part storyline featuring the return of Lord Zedd to enact a new plan.

Synopsis[]

When Jane vetoes a BuzzBlast story on Bigfoot, Amelia tells Stan and Annie to bend the rules and do it anyway. But when her colleagues end up in danger, Amelia learns an important lesson about responsibility.

Plot[]

Amelia and two BuzzBlast employees, Stan and Annie, are outside Area 62 to interview Pop-Pop, who is very reluctant to do it as he does not like talking about his past. Pop-Pop is dressed in radioactive protection gear as he fears the area is radioactive, but there is no sign of radiation from the staff's Geiger counter. Pop-Pop goes ahead with the interview, telling Amelia that he never saw any alien activity due to working as a janitor. When the boom mic operator's phone goes off, Pop-Pop believes it is a radiation signal and runs off, only to trip and fall into a blueberry bush. However, the alert is a notification about a viral video that looks like Bigfoot in Paterson Woods.

Excited about seeing Bigfoot, Amelia pitches the idea to Jane back at the office. However, Jane cannot see the figure properly due to how blurry the video is and tells Amelia to stick with the Area 62 story. Still, Amelia decides to go ahead with the Bigfoot story without Jane's permission and tells Stan and Annie to look for him. She gives them a file folder on Bigfoot to research, just as Solon calls her and asks she return to Dinohenge immediately. As Amelia leaves, Stan and Annie find a map to Dinohenge and decide to go there as Bigfoot was rumoured to build them.

Once the Rangers meet at Dinohenge, Solon receives a call from General Shaw, the head of Grid Battleforce. Shaw calls the Rangers in the middle of a battlefield, warning them that a prison break has occurred in Coral Harbor and many villains in captivity have escaped. The Grid Battleforce Rangers are seen fighting against one of the prisoners, but Shaw warns Zayto that they have reports of one heading to Pine Ridge. Once the call ends, the Ranger Hotline alerts an unknown entity.

The Rangers teleport to the fields, and Javi sees a spike-covered monster in the trees. As the monster walks towards them, Amelia realizes it was the "Bigfoot" she saw in the video. The Rangers morph and attack the monster, only to find him insanely powerful. Zayto and Aiyon try using the powers of the Blazing Armor and the Electro Armor against the monster, but the latter quickly counters the attacks. Zayto activates the Dino Knight Armor Mode and immediately uses the Dino Knight Strike, but the monster counters with a blast that knocks the former out mid-attack. As the Rangers struggle to get back on their feet, the monster reveals he is not a Sporix Beast: he introduces himself as Lothorn, the nephew of the evil wizard Lokar. Before the Rangers could charge at Lothorn, the latter teleports away.

Returning to Dinohenge, Solon scans the city as Javi wonders what Lothorn's plan is as there seems to be more to the latter than randomly attacking Pine Ridge. Meanwhile, Stan and Annie arrive at Dinohenge, only to see Lothorn come there as well. They hide behind a statue and begin recording, but Lothorn begins striking the statues as he somehow knows that destroying them would cut the Ranger's connection to the Morphin Grid. The Rangers get an alert about Lothorn's attack at Dinohenge and Amelia sees Stan and Annie in trouble. The Rangers immediately get outside as Amelia teleports Stan and Amelia out of the area. Using the Shield Key, Zayto blocks Lothorn's attack and activates the teleportation systems, dragging the latter with him into the city.

Lothorn refuses to go back to Grid Battleforce and fights the Rangers, getting angry that our heroes are insulting his feet and hair. As the Rangers get the upper hand, Lothorn pulls out a Pocket Gigantifier and uses it to grow. The Rangers summon their Zords and form the Dino Fury Megazord Warrior Formation and the Moza Razor Zord Battle Mode. The fight continues, both Megazords ganging up on Lothorn and overpowering him. Eventually, Zayto summons the Ptera Freeze Zord, and they reconfigure to the Primal Ultrazord, knocking Lothorn into space and destroying him with a Primal Ultra Blast.

Later that day, Amelia sees a baking video Jane and Pop-Pop did with the blueberries he found near Area 62, only for it to go wrong when J-Borg offhandedly said they could have grown due to radiation. Amelia apologizes to Stan and Annie for getting them into trouble and promises never to push them into ignoring Jane's rules again. When the Rangers come in, Ollie sees Amelia's file folders about her superstitious beliefs and asks why she cares about it. Amelia reveals a folder containing info about her parents, explaining that they were lost in a fire based on what Pop-Pop told her. However, Amelia is certain that there is more to it and explains that trying to find other unresolved mysteries would hopefully one day find clues to what really happened to her parents. Realizing how serious Amelia is about finding her parents and how they now know it was not a hobby for her, the Rangers tell her she will find her parents and give her a big group hug. Afterwards, Solon calls Zayto and tells him that General Shaw wants to provide them with a briefing.

When the Rangers get back to Dinohenge, General Shaw informs the Rangers that thanks to the Grid Battleforce Rangers, the prison break has been contained. However, one villain managed to escape their grasp, their old foe Scrozzle. Shaw says that the prison break was done to release Scrozzle and send Lothorn after them, revealing that the being who concocted this plan was Lord Zedd. This shocks the Rangers, and after seeing security footage of him attacking Grid Battleforce, they are immediately unnerved by his return. Aiyon recalls that the Green Morphin Master said he was the key to stopping Zedd, and Javi grimly remarks that things were about to get interesting.
