I don’t use this method all the time but it can be helpful if you’re trying to drastically change the shape/push down the lid, because the trapped air helps the form resist collapsing. This form started out more narrow and tall like a bottle, but ended up shorted and squatter. It’s easier to get the mouth hole smaller while throwing as a narrow form, and the LATER shaping the belly to be wider. versus trying to close the mouth hole while it’s big and wide…. Does that make sense? Closed forms is very much timing when to do which steps, as there are many steps, especially for something more detailed like this one. This way you dont need to throw them in two parts, you can do it all in one. One very important tip for thos type of shape is to leave some clay at the top to close your form, specially if you decide to make a round shape like that. You will need clay at the top to be able to close it and make the knob. Its better to have a little bit more clay and take it off then to not have enough! Happy potting everyone.
