Never both again, as together they create a surface that’s perhaps a little too dramatic for my liking, although with that being said, clay that’s been trimmed away from these pots has found its way into my reclaim and thus into new thrown work, albeit in a much more pared back manner. A red dot here, a molten pool of iron there, I prefer when they’re subtle like this, it makes them more akin to beauty spots. Florian Gadsby on Instagram: "In my YouTube video this week, I’m making a set of bud vases according to the golden ratio, the Fibonacci sequence, in terms of the weight of material used to create each. You can find a link to the fully narrated film via the Linktree in my profile’s biography.   This sequence helps to create pots that scale up and down in a very pleasing way. There’s a fluid, natural progression between them, and at the same time, practicing to throw pots like this, replicating the same shapes only smaller and larger, reproducing proportions such as the opening at the top, the sloping in rim and the height and width of the vessels, is superb practice and a great way of improving how you ‘see’ objects.    Copying is important.
