Mariel Jungkunz is a former journalist and a graduate of the Las
Hermanas mentorship program for unpublished Latinx kidlit writers at Las Musas Books. Originally from Puerto Rico, she currently resides in Ohio, where she works as an editor for dictionary.com.

Monica Rodriguez has a BFA in Fine Art from Savannah College of Art and Design and works primarily with picture book illustration and character design.

Mariel Jungkunz is a Puerto Rican journalist who grew up in Río Piedras (PR) and north Florida. A graduate of the creative writing program at Florida State University, she is currently a senior research editor at Dictionary and Thesaurus online, where she is particularly interested in issues of how pop culture and language intersect. Mariel resides in Ohio with her family, including her 11-year-old daughter, and they gather grass for Los Reyes Magos each year.

When my kids were little I looked for a story like this one but it wasn't on the shelves. I'm so happy families will be able to read a book like this now. A sweet story about bringing your traditions wherever you might go. I loved the inclusion of dishes from Puerto Rico and appreciate the contrast with the family's new home. If you celebrate Día de Reyes, you'll want to get this one!

A beautiful book full of traditions, family, and the hope of carrying a piece of home to an unknown place that eventually becomes home. Lucía moves from her beloved island, where the sun shines all year round, to Ohio, where she encounters gray skies during the holiday season. But even there, beneath all the snow, Lucía finds bits of grass that allow her to carry her dreams of green with her. The story is beautifully written, with some words in Spanish that evoke different holiday traditions, foods, and music. The illustrations are colorful and full of emotions, a perfect complement to enhance the story. This book is a fantastic gift for the holidays or for anyone who enjoys learning about different traditions.

This beautiful book captures the special traditions of Three Kings Day as we follow Lucia who has moved from Puerto Rico to Ohio. Adorable illustrations blends with the heartwarming text. Lucia worries that the Three Kings may not make it to her new home in Ohio, where the weather is drastically different from what she’s used to. The reader is left with a heartfelt message of holding on to your traditions and celebrating them wherever you may be.

A beautiful book about preserving traditions. Lucia is anticipating Three Kings Day, but she is no longer in Puerto Rico where the sun is out and there's plenty of grass to offer the camels on their long journey. Now in Ohio, she worries. Will she find green in the midst of a blanket of snow? Perhaps arugula from the store would do the trick? Follow Lucia as she anticipates a beloved holiday, worries about not being able to preserve it, and continues her tradition in her new home (while learning to leave room for change).

We are living in New England and this book filled our hearts, it brought me to tears and we loved it from start to finish! I am grateful to have found this book at my local library and now ran to amazon to buy it! I love that there is also a Spanish version! I can’t say enough good things about this book!!!
