I'm not going to post any spoilers, but I will share... I read this story from my school library as a little girl well over 30 years ago. I can still remember staying up very late at night trying to finish it. It was one of those stories that really resonated with me, the kind of plot that I remembered days, weeks, and even YEARS later. I had forgotten the title but somehow found it and was able to purchase a copy recently for my own daughter -- who has already ready it twice now and also enjoyed it. This book is on about an early 4th grade level, but if your daughter likes dolls and dollhouses, she will probably really enjoy it!

The best children's literature is written on two levels, one for the youngsters and the other for adults. This story hits both levels. Sweet and sad and hopeful.

This is a sweet story about the inner life of the dolls living with two young girls. They are very excited when they finally get a house to live in instead of boxes! There is some angst and conflict but all turns out well in the end. This was destined from the beginning for my Little Free Library. I enjoyed reading it; intended for 3-6th graders.

I first read "The Doll's House" when I was nine years old. I well remember getting it from the bookmobile that came around to our school in 1962. I never forgot the story of Tottie and the other dolls and recently looked up the book again. It did not disappoint. It is a child's book with an adult perspective, such as the "Little House" books do. A book that stays with you for a lifetime.

I'll have to ask my grandchildren what they think of this book. I didn't find it very interesting. The characters stuck me as a bit "wooden". (Ha)
