The Forbidden City is famous not only for its size and beauty, but also for its architectural style. It shows the culmination of classical Chinese and East Asian architecture. It is the largest existing wooden structure in China. Surrounded by a 2.36 mile long moat and an 8 meter high wall, it also contains 9999 rooms and in its entirety covers 775,000 square feet. All the major buildings are wooden structures roofed with yellow glazed tiles and are supported by white marble terraces.
