Big City Sprint is a track that appears in Sonic Forces: Speed Battle. It is unlocked in Tier 6, or upon reaching 2250 Trophies. It was added in promotion of the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film, along with Downtown Dash and Emerald Market Blitz.

Description[]

Big City Sprint is a hard-difficulty racetrack located in Emerald City. The area is a large and modern seaport city set during nighttime in the middle of rainy weather, the sky being overcast by dark blue and purple clouds. In the horizon, one can spot various tall buildings and skyscrapers in dark-colors and with orange-glowing windows in them. Among these buildings are also Seattle's famous Space Needle.

The racetrack itself is a four-lane asphalt road with yellow lane markings on its edges and in the middle and a pair of broken white lines on it, dividing the lanes further. Sometimes though, the racetracks transitions into pale red pedestrian streets.

Next to the racing track are various cars, such as taxis, police cars with flashing sirens, passenger cars and trucks, potted plants, dumpsters, bus stops, city trees with green crowns, streetlamps, traffic lights with flashing lights, simple street signs, benches, and traffic redirecting equipment, such as traffic cones and barriers. Looming over the racetrack on the sides are also apartment buildings, shops with overhangs, and towers in various dull colors and with orange light shining out of their windows. Along the racetrack, one can also spot sideroads, which are closed off from the racetrack, that are cloaked in fog. Hanging over the racetracks are also lampposts on strings. When moving along the pedestrian streets, the player may pass through a market place marked with a large red neon sign saying "EMERALD MARKET CENTER". These kind of areas in particular are open spaces with pale red sett paving and feature outdoor furniture, like chairs, tables and parasols, food trucks, more city trees, and handlebars.

Gameplay[]

In Big City Sprint, the playable characters are stuck running down the level's road and can only move left and right between the road's four lanes (akin to the Quick Step). While running, the player can pick up Rings or power-ups from Item Boxes and utilize the gimmicks native to this track. Rings and Item Boxes in particular respawn almost immediately after a playable character picks them up from the track.

Big City Sprint has many environmental obstacles which the player can either jump over, roll under or move around. Running into one of these obstacles will result in the player taking damage and lose ten of their Rings. Falling into bottomless pits on the other hand forces the player to restart from an earlier point on the track.

Overview[]

Big City Sprint begins on a straight section of the track with a barricade ahead that must be jumped over. After that, the track makes a turn to the left. The track will then enter a long, straight section with several obstacles along it, including three barricades, two of which must be jumped over while the third either has to jumped or slid under. At the end of this section, the track takes a turn to the right, where it will go straight ahead on a section with water sprout pillars along it. Eventually though, the track will make a turn to the right, into a straight-road section, which will eventually make another turn to the right. From here, the track will be straight for a while, with a barricade along it that the player can either slide under or jump over. Regardless, the track will eventually turn to the right again and lead down a straight section. When the track then turns to the right again, the player has to slide under a truck that has parked across the track. After that, the player will enter a Grind Rail section that leads up to the goal.
