Samsung Group (or simply Samsung, stylized as SΛMSUNG) is a South Korean multinational manufacturing conglomerate.[citation needed] The company is located in Samsung Town, Seoul.[citation needed] While, nowadays, the tension between Japan and Korea has toned down, making it possible to market Japanese products over there, it was illegal at the time, between early 80's and late 90's, to market products made by Japanese people, as well as companies due to how much World War II has effected and provoked these two countries at each other, thus making it impossible for Sega, as well as other Japanese companies like Nintendo, to market their products in South Korea without risking being in trouble.[1] To get around that problem, they've made a deal with Samsung to distribute their consoles in that region, while also changing the names of the consoles.[1]

In October 2022, Samsung produced commercials for their SSD disk product Samsung 980 PRO while cross-promoting Sonic Frontiers with commercials being narrated by Sonic's Japanese voice actor Jun'ichi Kanemaru.[2]

Video games[]

The main video game consoles released by Samsung in Korea are:

  • Master System (1989, from Sega), renamed as the Gam*Boy (Gam*Boy II for Model 2), later the Aladdin Boy.
  • Mega Drive (1990, from Sega), renamed as the Super Gam*Boy, later the Super Aladdin Boy (Super Aladdin Boy II for Model 2).
  • Sega Game Gear (1991, from Sega), renamed as the Handy Gam*Boy.

  • Sega 32X (1994, from Sega). renamed as the Super 32X.
  • Sega Saturn (1995, from Sega), renamed as the Samsung Saturn.
